  1. If it’s the store I think it is (came across it almost by chance) I would agree - well worth a visit for the vinyl. At least it was, 10 years ago !
  2. Fine band, fine release. Laid back masterpiece !
  3. Is that the CD or 150g LP version?
  4. Potentially a great Mosaic box - ‘The Complete Pacific Jazz/World Pacific Recordings of the Jazz Crusaders Live at the Lighthouse’ if that extra material had been unearthed and if the individual CDs hadn’t been issued (except ‘69).
  5. The England team will already be quivering in their boots..
  6. Yep - ‘68 and ‘69 are my favourites. Buster Williams on board.
  7. Sobering thought !
  8. Really must buy his biography. A very good read, apparently. JH was on tour until very recently, when his illness struck. Also producing albums at his Temple Studios.
  9. I had tickets for the Fo’tet with Don Byron and Carrott many years ago and was really looking forward to it but unfortunately it was cancelled last minute due to Canadian border control issues. Never did get to see them - although did see Byron and Peterson in Byron’s own group of the time (predictably excellent).
  10. The very sad news was announced today that the gifted and versatile drummer, band leader and producer Jon Hiseman had passed away early this morning. He was a major figure in both British and European jazz and rock from the 1960s through to recent times as a result of his work with own group Colosseum, the New Jazz Orchestra, The United Jazz and Rock Ensemble, Graham Bond, John Mayall, Mike Taylor Trio and many others. By all accounts a lovely guy, all round force for good and a stalwart support to his wife, saxophonist Barbara Thompson. He’ll be missed - RIP.
  11. Ralph Peterson ‘Introducing the Fo’tet’ is a standout. Too bad it isn’t on the list.
  12. BGO have just reissued it.
  13. Rabbi Lionel Blue-Note? Bad enough that Mr ‘Something of the Night’ was on just before..
  14. Me too - about the best thing I have ever heard on the ‘Today’ programme.
  15. Good that the Jazz Journal column remains a going concern. A highlight of that fine publication !
  16. Don’t think so. His quartet gig at Swanage has a comment in the programme that material from some more obscure tenor players will be played, so maybe there will be some Booker ! I think he is on record as preferring his live gigs as distinct to recordings.
  17. He hasn’t. He’s doing the Swanage Festival next month, among other things. As well as appearing with his quartet, he’s part of a JJ Johnson Quintet tribute group.
  18. Saw Soloff with Evans too. I think the other trumpets were Miles Evans and Ian Carr.
