  1. Still got all of mine too - and never felt any reason to change them. Wishing him a good retirement !
  2. ‘Time Capsule’ it definitely is. In fact, Elvin still had groups somewhat in this style when I saw him at Scotts around 1980 and Ryo Kawasaki was still there on guitar I think (correction - it was Fumio Kawashima).
  3. Yes, their service is brilliant - packaging and shipping first rate. I think I had one set delivered from Barcelona door to door within 2 days !
  4. Short but very sweet. Recorded at Abbey Road - and that is Stan’s late wife on the cover photo I believe.
  5. I find ‘Time Capsule’ to be an enjoyable session. With Kenny Barron on Fender it has a feel of mid-70s Muse sessions but is more heavily produced. Bunky Green on alto, which is always a plus. Although no masterpiece, this one is under-rated.
  6. My copy of the Savory is also from jazzmessengers and is no. 487.
  7. Sadly, I missed most of his suite inspire by the Woolwich area which was the main feature of his performance. What I did catch though was an absolutely brilliant version of ‘Black Satin’ from Miles’ ‘On The Corner’ that his group finished with. Ran Miles’ version close ! Yesterday’s highlights - Alan Barnes in duet with Dave Newton, the Pete Long Big Band’s stunning full recreation of the Benny Goodman 1938 Carnegie Hall Concert, Spats Langham’s group, Jazz Jamaica’s party-style blast and the usual early jazz recreation excellence from Keith Nichols’ Blue Devils. That brilliant trumpeter Enrico Tomasso excelled with both Langham and Nichols. Nigel Price has confirmed that it will continue in 2019 so - bring it on !
  8. It is what it says on the tin !
  9. Why not? The Dutch-Anglo fan club member #1 on this thread will surely contribute.. https://youtu.be/E_6d3JBBo4s
  10. It’s good ! Bought from the horse’s mouth (Clark T.)
  11. Just back from a cracking day at the Swanage Fest. Greg Abate was in fine fettle to kick things off. He is loved at Swanage. Then Clark Tracey with a new quintet of very gifted youngsters - very impressive. Simon Spillett in two performances - one with trombonist Ian Bateman recreating vintage JJ Johnson and Frank Rosolino charts. The second with his Quartet featuring tunes associated with various tenors. Lovely stuff ! Phronesis finished things off. The room was as hot as a sauna, the performance a stunner.. Probably the most impressive music of the day though was by trumpeter Byron Wallen and his group. Wish I’d caught more of it !
  12. Not very well ! The needle’s stuck..
  13. Bought from Greg today - the last one he had !
  14. I was expecting a dillema as I’ll be at Swanage for the jazz fest this weekend. Problem averted !
  15. I’ll stick to the Jazz Crusaders, Horace Tapscott and Star Trek !
  16. I had a listen on Spotify and got fed up with all that mystic bombast. Won’t be purchasing..
  17. Yes Brad you are right - it was won from the mid-field. This place will be like a morgue tomorrow.
  18. I agree. If anyone had said at the start of this tournament that they would get as far as the semi’s, most people would have been suprised and delighted. They exceeded expectations - unlike some, who crashed out big time early on or even didn’t make the finals. Well played Croatia, pat on the back England.
  19. The Namuth recording crossed my mind too and it’s another one I want to hear. Only ever heard him on Buddy Rich’s ‘Mercy, Mercy, Mercy’ but it was an outstanding performance.
  20. Re: the Etta Jones with Cedar Walton. I have this one in my racks, dated 1972 I think.. Etta is on a couple of tracks. Otherwise it is Cedar and co. Big fan of the Left Bank sessions too - I’ll be ‘in’.
