  1. I can remember years when only Scotland of the ‘home’ teams featured in the World Cup Finals. We were just as ‘disunited’ then ! ‘Ally’s Tartan Army’ I think..
  2. An under-rated Diz/Schifrin gem !
  3. Rejigged the phono stage to power it from the preamp’s supply instead of its own dedicated supply. Big improvement - so the supply obviously badly needs a re-cap. Vinyl playback . Wallet .
  4. What a crock of horse-****. Did these bozos actually watch the same game? He obviously lost his red card and could only find the yellow one !
  5. I saw both Land and Lacy in the US in 1999 and both were on blistering form. Managed to have a short chat with Harold Land too - he was a bit wary but friendly.
  6. Yeah - 1977ish is about the era I associate with him too. According to wiki he studied with Herbie Nichols. That was news to me.
  7. I am glad that my prediction/worries didn’t come to pass. They kept their cool - and the goalie was outstanding. At the end of the day they won and will progress - which is all that counts. Some lessons to learn and build upon.
  8. They had it won - then one late lapse of concentration. Should be an interesting half hour !
  9. Respectfully disagree with you there..
  10. Columbia hoisted by their own petard !
  11. RIP. Doesn’t seem that long ago (to me) that he was one of the ‘young guys’. I think I’ve seen him but I can’t recall where or when.
  12. I’ve been notified that mine is on its way
  13. It’ll be another penalty shoot-out disaster..
  14. Congrats on your ‘Granite’ commission ! I’m already in on the ‘Catania’. However - didn’t even know about this one. Cheers for the prompt.
  15. Fine obituary for JH in today’s ‘Times’, in addition to the ones already published in the Telegraph and Guardian. I was aware of his work with Julian Lloyd Webber but not that Andew Lloyd Webber regarded him as ‘drummer of choice’ for new run productions. What an incredibly versatile and thoroughly professional artist he was.
  16. The Cadillac ‘Live 1972’ reissue for starters (great, highly recommended - has much of the Solid Gold Cadillac band), the recent Lou Gare tribute, the ‘Uncommon Orchestra’ Live 2CD as well as this Ronnie’s performance. Not to forget either the 3CD ‘Marching Song’ on Turtle Records, which with its extra CD of material and authoritive sleeve notes, is the definitive issue of this landmark UK recording. Best bet is probably Amazon UK, although you can also order CDs directly from Mike and Kate Westbrook’s site. Not sure about shipping to the USA. Dusty Groove might also be worth a look, Stateside.
  17. I wonder what that candlestick was all about?
  18. Hard to keep up with the avalanche of Westbrook releases these days. A very happy state of affairs !
  19. Just a quick post to plug ‘Translinear Light’ (on Verve) for anyone who doesn’t already have it. Well worth the search.
  20. Alice Coltrane ‘Translinear Light’. Eluded me when it cam out - a lovely release.
  21. and it was the last night at the Old Place ! Much of the material is also featured on the ‘Release’ LP. Although I have that LP, this CD is near the top of my ‘pending’ list.
