  1. Nice LP - I think I picked mine up from Mole Jazz’s second hand section. Also have it on Verve Elite CD. Good companion piece to JJ’s ‘The Brass Ochestra’.
  2. The Duke Pearson Big Band put out by Uptown sounds pretty good audio-wise so if up to that standard should be more than acceptable. Doesn’t sound to me like a cassette.
  3. ‘Black Rhythm Happening’ missing from the list.
  4. This afternoon’s project - to crack open this one with a beer.
  5. I don’t think he will though. Sterling’s pace caused quite a bit of trouble and mayhem - albeit his finishing sucked somewhat.
  6. Not to under-estimate drive and ambition in a young side, along with having a coherent plan. The 1966 side weren’t expected to win and making the final was far from cert, so don’t underestimate an inspirational manager and captain, together with gutsy stubborn-ness and belief. The best thing they did was jetisson Rooney and co. ! That said, Croatia will be a challenge.
  7. Another great one from Mr Trunk, sessions recorded under miraculous circumstances. Original meticulous scorrs thrown in the bin/burnt by Mike Taylor, luckily retrieved by Jon Hiseman, further orchestrated by Neil Ardley and band members and recording funded at risk by Denis Preston at a time when UK jazz was going through the floor. Tapes supplied I believe courtesy Neil Ardley’s estate.
  8. Almost unbearable here !
  9. Original LP pressed in 99 copies by Chris Wellard for tax reasons ! One of Jon Hiseman’s best sessions, IMO, along with the Mike Taylor Columbia sessions. Strangely, his biography makes no mention of it.
  10. The beer will run dry over here tonight. Best England side I have seen for years.
  11. Once again, they kept their heads. Pickford, Maguirre and Trippier outstanding.
  12. Pickford morphing into Gordon Banks Mk 2 ! Game opening up !
  13. Prestige Bergenfield black/silver stereo. Very fine session !
  14. I’ve found that the best way to acquire those Kloss sessions was on the Prestige/Fantasy CDs (2LPs on one CD). Getting quite hard to fine now. Pat Martino signed the one with ‘In The Land of the Giants’ for me. ‘Skyshadows’ was also on that one. Now back to vinyl..
  15. I have no alegiances either way to Brazil or Belgium but I thought Belgium looked more solid in defence (especially) and midfield and that for much of the game they were in control. There was a Brazil onslaught towards the end but their defence - and especially the goalie - had it covered. Good game !
  16. Andy Gonzalez and Hilton Ruiz - now there was a combination to see live. Ideally, to be complemented by Giovanni Hidalgo..
  17. Not particular a fan but I appreciate his artistry and importance from the ‘Stiff’ years onwards. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
  18. I thought Belgium looked much more solid all round. They deserved the win.
  19. I remember watching the ‘66 final on the TV with family and then having a football kickeround afterwards. Good times. Also remember for the ‘70 finals collecting those Esso World Cup coins at service stations. Had the full set ! Abiding memory of those finals is Bobby Moore being ‘set up’.
