  1. 'Tough Talk' by the Jazz Crusaders is a good one with Buster Williams. Not to mention Herbie's 'The Prisoner' on Blue Note. I remember seeing his quartet open a small-ish gig quite a few years ago with his excellent tune 'Firewater' and getting to watch the show from the back of the stage. Great stuff ! I think so. I've seen 'Firewater' credited to this name on record labels.
  2. Just about to crack mine open now spinning - CD2
  3. Good move - the mastering on that one is pretty spectacular.
  4. Mr Men Thomas Manne Man of La Mancha
  5. Amen to the power of 5 !
  6. I've just been 'dinged' about the same amount by Royal Mail (although admittedly that was for 3 boxes). With their £8 'handling fee' on top as well, of course Due to arrive tomorrow with Teagarden and Sarah Vaughan - all being well.
  7. Gordon Sumner Gordon Ottershaw Barnstoneworth
  8. Some Jazz 625 clips on BBC4 tonight - the Telegraph have a short article on it today: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/worldfolkandjazz/10850293/Jazzs-golden-age-at-the-BBC.html
  9. Cootie Williams Kipper Williams Kip Hanrahan
  10. Now CDs 1 to 3 of this set. What a great box .... and great band ! and topped off with CD7. Golson's 'Take a Number From 1 to 10' and Farmer's 'Listen To Art Farmer & The Orchestra'. Two undervalued and excellent albums.
  11. St Nigel Sir Nigel Gresley Nigel Tuffnel
  12. Would it, though? I doubt that these days Rosemary Clooney has much more of a following than Anthony Braxton. It's not like it's a Mosaic of Miley Cyrus or somebody. I imagine the motivation is the usual one: artistic. I'm inclined to agree. Mosaic are very effective at producing sets which provoke/enable critical re-evaluation of an often underestimated artist and I suspect that this set might be one of those. It also seems to be in line with their well-established 'mission' to produce high-quality vocal-oriented sets - Four Freshmen, Mildred, Dinah, Vaughan, Mercer etc.
  13. Jenson Button Ingrid Jensen Maria Schneider
  14. The Freeeman is excellent. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a pleasant suprise. Looks like I will need to pick up the Tony Williams and the Toshiko..
  15. Certainly looks like a Boris Rose boot - typography very similar to some of the Ozone LPs I have.
  16. Swagg Man Rolf Harris Wee Willie Harris
  17. Now CDs 1 to 3 of this set. What a great box .... and great band !
  18. I'd be interested to hear how it compared with an 47W63rd original - and also that 45rpm version (Acoustic Sounds?)
  19. Wayne Shorter 'Super Nova' (BN Liberty blue/white stereo) Nice sleeve notes by the late Herb Wong.
