I remember that store well - it had a good collection and often my trips to Van coincided with one of their nice '20%-off everything' sales (usually coincident with Labour Day, Thanksgiving or some other holiday). The Albertan cities also had good stores by the same chain.

No. I have patchy coverage of most of the 70s 'domestic' stuff too - some on CD and some on vinyl. Was very impressed with what Mark Wilder did with the sound of the CDs in the Miles box so if this is comparable it looks like a 'must have'.

Totally agree re: Shabaka Hutchings on bass clarinet. Very impressive... and 'Sons of Kemet' are a must see ! They nearly lifted the roof off the Methodist church at Swanage

Don't you have Eric Rose's Music Inn nearby? (not that they would necessarily have the stuff you play). Is it still going? It used to have a big shop a mile out from Nottingham city centre; then moved to an arcade in the centre. I'd assumed it had folded. Still advertising in Jazz Journal so assume still there (although not sure if it is mail-order only).

Don't you have Eric Rose's Music Inn nearby? (not that they would necessarily have the stuff you play). Glad to say that in Bath/Bristol and thereabouts there are still specialist stores stocking jazz out there. Long may it remain the case !

There's an interview with Carla in this month's 'Jazzwise' which mentions the difficulties on this tour and the fact that it was run on a shoe-string financially. I'll dig it out.

Interesting that they've got access to the master tapes. Hearing this gives me hope that we'll see some-one finally put out 'Hum Dono'. If I see this one in the shops over here I'll probably pick up a copy as 'play copy' and save the wear on my original. Fine session (with rare feature for Alan Branscombe on alto and vibes) and just nicely hippy-dippy IMO.

Owned mine 38 years too. Picked up this one and 'Get Up With It' at the special '2LPs for price of 1' price of £2.99 each on UK CBS. Been spinning them both regularly ever since - and they are still both Mint - !

Romaldo - over-taken by events I think. This would have been part of the 'Impressed Repressed' series but Universal Europe canned that one around that time. I've heard nothing definite either way to truly confirm that the master tapes still exist/don't exist. If they do exist, strange that Vocalion (who picked up the reissue baton after Universal) haven't put this one out.

It's good - shame that Vocalion or Ten To Ten (Clark Tracey's label) have not put this out on CD. Ownership rights issue, perhaps? The LP is recorded in a studio session at Lansdowne Studio but it covers the same Tracey charts as on the TV show (which was introduced by saxophonist/critic Benny Green).

This clip was part of an Ellington 70th birthday tribute by Stan Tracey & the Big Brass put out by the BBC in 1969/70 - a Dennis Preston 'Lansdowne' production. There are also features on the programme for Ian Carr, Don Rendell, Acker Bilk and a few others. BBC4 have occasionally re-broadcast this programme over the past decade. UK Columbia also put out a 'Big Brass' LP which replicates the content of this show. It's the only film of Harriott known to exist. He certainly recorded a whole series of shows around this time for HTV West/Harlech TV in Bristol with the 'Indo Jazz Fusions' but they are believed wiped. There's speculation that there is also film footage taken on the Continent (Germany?) but nothing has surfaced to my knowledge to date.
