  1. This clip was part of an Ellington 70th birthday tribute by Stan Tracey & the Big Brass put out by the BBC in 1969/70 - a Dennis Preston 'Lansdowne' production. There are also features on the programme for Ian Carr, Don Rendell, Acker Bilk and a few others. BBC4 have occasionally re-broadcast this programme over the past decade. UK Columbia also put out a 'Big Brass' LP which replicates the content of this show. It's the only film of Harriott known to exist. He certainly recorded a whole series of shows around this time for HTV West/Harlech TV in Bristol with the 'Indo Jazz Fusions' but they are believed wiped. There's speculation that there is also film footage taken on the Continent (Germany?) but nothing has surfaced to my knowledge to date.

  6. Will be spinning this one later tonight..
  7. Amazing how they have that instinct to home in on the jugular..
  8. Yes, my Monk box has that sheet in it too.

  10. A Master musician - RIP. Glad that I got the chance to see/hear him once.
  11. I have quite a few Pacific Jazz and UA on King. Sound is excellent, can't think of any exceptions.

  13. Maybe Black Saint/Soul Note boxes need to be issued with a gratis magnifying glass.. That was one aspect of the George Russell set that I was less than thrilled about (otherwise the set is great).

  15. Yeah, I remember them (the Peddlars) too from the TV around 1970 or thereabouts - a bit of a blur though. The Mixtures I remember much more clearly. That one was the big hit at junior school !

  17. Indeed. The people across the road left their recycling bags out on top of their wheelie bins and hadn't moved this morning. Phew! MG I spoke too soon - there was a major branch fall down the lane blocking me from getting out for a while this morning. My place remained unscathed though. Most of the people at my place who ended up working from home were London-area based. Nambies !

  19. Strange - not even a dustbin blown over here. So far.. Suspect that you had to be right on the coast to feel the worst of this one.
  20. Very Happy Birthday Guy !
  21. It really is strange that the Mobley has held out as long as it has. Bearing in mind Mobley's big cult popularity and the fact that some of the sets sold out very fast. Defies the laws of physics, that set ! The Django too..
  22. Famous last words Mr Fish !
  23. Any advance on Monk set 2907?
  24. That one was gone when I "joined" (1997 I assume, maybe 1998 - the TKM came somewhen in 1997, but it took me a few months after reading and clipping a rewiew to figure out how to get hold of it ... and then surface shipping took another pair of months). I didn't get on to Mosaic untill the 2000s and sets like that were long gone by the time I cottoned on to Mosaic's website. The ones I missed have taken some rooting out over the years.
  25. I've got a plantation of bay trees facing SW which is my first line of defence. Another plantation next door should take the sting out of it (hopefully).
