  1. I thouight you were 'downsizing' Lon? Nice set
  2. Clive Dunn Corporal Jones Pikey
  3. Foyles is definitely worth a trip - after scanning the racks at Ray's it's always worth a coffee at their very fine cafe, one of the best in the West End IMO.
  4. I was hoping that that wasn't the case - too bad. I'm in town on Friday and was thinking of calling in but will give it a miss. Will stick with Ray's I think. End of an era ! Ronnie wouldn't have allowed it ! The 'Bull's Head' in Barnes might be worth a trip - the likes of Stan Tracey and Peter King often play there. Comprehensive London listings for March here..http://www.jazzinlondon.net/JIL/Mar-13.htm
  5. Can't beat the good old LP12 !
  6. The Child Catcher George Osborne Mary Osborne
  7. That's very sad to hear. RIP to a stalwart of the UK trad scene. A guy I used to work with was a relative of his.
  8. Willie Makeit Maynard Fergusson Massey Fergusson
  9. I've been enjoying this one from Central Otago in New Zealand over the past few years.
  10. Bill - you were obviously watching the Baader Meinhof Complex on the box last night. I have it recorded. Mr Angry Norman Tebbitt Dennis Skinner
  11. Not quite ! Much as I would really like a Dynavector Tai Ketora Rua, I refuse to go there..
  12. (Board Member) Peter Johnson Ben Johnson Ulrika Jonsson
  13. At least with CDs you don't have to change out the laser after every 1000 hours or so at £1k a pop !
  14. Doesn't he do boots and casual clothing?
  15. Nigel Dempster Gary Bushell Marjie Proops
  16. That one is great. Two excellent sessions - it was on this twofer that they were first issued as well I think, thanks to Charlie Lourie.
  17. Both formats have their advantages and disadvantages. For vinyl I would liken it to savouring a fine wine. It requires good front-end playback equipment to do it justice though and you wouldn't want to be spinning those things day in and day out. For day-to-day listening and convenience, CDs do me just fine. Then MP3 for in the car at work etc. (Yawn)...
  18. New Faeces Simon Cowell Stanley Cowell
  19. Happy Birthday and long live Mr Haynes ! I know a picture of Bird soloing as a member of a Jimmy Heath big band with Trane in the sax section looking on. So Heath maybe an other. Happy Birthday, Mr. Haynes! Sonny Rollins as well? (Miles Davis session with Bird on tenor plus the Coltrane/Rollins session, both for Prestige).
  20. Donald Byrd 'Fuego' (BN 47W63rd DG mono). 'Gramophone' review copy. A very good McLean session - as well as for Byrd.
  21. Picked up a copy last year - a UK Liberty blue/white with the 'Van Gelder', first one I've ever seen of those (and a very short-lived variant I think). A good replacement for my old Pathe Marconi DMM.
  22. Boris Johnson Boris Karloff Doris Karloff
  23. Ronnie Scott's, London, 1969-11-02 love that stuff! Salle Pleyel, Paris, 1969-11-03 This stuff is better than what Sony chose for the (great to have and very, very good) set. The 'Duffy's Tavern' disk is my fave on the 'Tree' - although the fidelity is up there with the Bird Benedetti tapes ! Too bad that the video tapes for the Ronnie Scott gig were destroyed - apart from one short excerpt. Damn Beeb.
