  10. Somewhere I've still got, I think, the autograph of his old front line fast bowling partner from Yorkshire, Bill Bowes. He was a pretty old chap when that autograph was done (umpiring I think).

  14. Cables do most definitely make a difference - but a lot of it has to do with synergy/matching with the rest of your system and the quality of the rest of your system. Plus there is definitely a law of diminishing returns, the more you spend. The secret, I guess, is to find the 'maxima' of improvement gain per unit price difference.

  18. I'd like to see what the definition of 'b*llocks' is Not the Donald Byrd album, surely? "This meant that as well as sh*t taste in music, he had appalling taste in clothes too. Pringle jumpers, pleated Farrahs, shoes that looked like pasties, white socks, revolting shirts and a comical wedge-cut hairdon't. Add to this 80s fashion horrorshow a Ford Capri and Super Mario-style moustache underlining his bulbous nose, and you get an object lesson in tw*tdom." Must be...
  19. Seems to work from here in the UK. The FF2011 15% voucher code works OK too. And shipping came out to £4.99 ! Of course, I've yet to receive anything..
  20. Lucky you ! Some-one should ship them to Bath.
  21. Thanks for the confirmation. Looks like a 'must have'.
  22. There's also something in this month's Jazzwise about a lost Tubby Hayes 60s tape being recently found in Alfred Lion's garage !!! Presumably some long-lost Tempo era recording (presumably sent over to Alfred by Tony Hall?). Not sure about the details.
  23. Yes, I've skipped Bath for the second year running. I notice Nod Knowles is no longer involved - wonder if that might explain the falling off. He would scour the strangest corners of Europe to bring back musicians I'd never heard of. That's correct. Nod Knowles involvement ended last year - he was very enthusiastic and brought in some very interesting lineups and really promoted the jazz side of things. Joanna MacGregor looks after that side of things now - but of course she's heavily involved with the Classical element as well as the jazz so maybe a lack of focus and promotion on the jazz? Last years jazz content was pretty good (with fine stuff from David Murray, among others) - obviously Nod's swansong?
  24. Well, I'd completely forgotten that it was the 'jazz weekend' at Bath this weekend. Took another look at the lineup but sorry to say that with the exception of the Evan Parker and the late night Etheridge/Paricceli/Sheppard radio broadcast there was nothing that said 'must go' to me. With the possible exception of the afternoon film showing of 'Noggin The Nog', which is sold out anyway.
