  1. 2CD version. Sonically, more than acceptable. In the process of dusting it and its colleagues, now have a sneezing fit though !
  2. Yes, same thing on my CD copy.
  3. This is one that I have passed on. I have a Japanese and French DMM version of this title, the scale has completely tipped over for me !
  4. My reaction too when I gave mine a spin tonight. Pre-oil crisis (71) so not sure what happened there.
  5. Also available as individual CDs by Blue Note Italy around the earlier dates (at least that’s how I got mine).
  6. Ironic as when much of this stuff came out, it hardly registered interest and in many cases you couldn’t give it away. The jazz press, by and large, was lukewarm too.
  7. Yes, ‘Glass Bead Games’ in the early/original Strata-East 2LP was always higher priced and more elusive than Blackstone Legacy. The Pure Pleasure seems to have had mixed reports and is reputedly a needle drop I think. Many years ago I got the chance to ask John Koenig about these Shaw Contemporary recording sessions. Apparently the sessions were a bit chaotic - I think he referred to Shaw as being ‘well lubricated’.
  8. Following on from the other thread. White label stereo promo.
  9. I seem to have been lucky with this one. My vinyl copy, a white label promo, was about £25 I think. Picked up the CD for about a fiver.
  10. Rare example of a project commissioned by a fellow board member.
  11. Same album. That top cover art was used in the cover from the ‘collectors choice’ CD and if I remember correctly, it was a needle drop.
  12. Prompted by another thread and fun to be reminded of this lineup. The Horizon Blue Notes are well worthy of reissue in remastered sound.
  13. Strangely enough, the only time I can recall seeing Art Farmer play he was in a Big Band lineup with James Moody. Never saw him on any of his UK tours, which is a shame. Last time I saw Moody was around 2006 at Northsea and he was playing great, part of a big band lineup conducted by Slide Hampton. Shame that Slide wasn’t also playing. I would agree with that. The Blue Note albums are excellent but live, that band could really smoke. Victor Lewis on drums a major factor in that I think. As I recall it, this was also a hard working band on stage. If you saw them in Portland, was it around 1992/3? They would have been touring Western Canada/NW USA. It was certainly Winter - around -20C outside when I saw them !
  14. Yes, I like the Rouse Blue Note too. He adapts well into the bossa style and the Latin percussion sets up a good groove too. Other than the copy I have I don’t think I ever saw it on original vinyl and I suspect it wasn’t reissued much other than in Japan. It came out of course on CD as part of the Conn series (I think I have a Toshiba from Mr Tanno somewhere). Wouldn’t be surprised to see it on the list for a future Classic or TP. I have that pressing too - the only version I have of it in stereo. If I recall rightly, the master tapes of that Bill Potts album were lost, as the Capitol CD was dubbed (came out in ‘collectors choice’ I think).
  15. Title track nicked verbatim from (or donated by) John Dankworth. Top 10 hit in the UK when issued !
  16. Any advance on my price of £20? Agree that it is a bit on the brief side but a good read, nevertheless.
  17. ‘The Cry Of Jazz’ came out on DVD some years back - I have a copy somewhere. Pretty sure it was recorded in Chicago.
  18. Sounds great. Sadly, a bit too distant from me. From what I could see of the Festival lineup, the pick of the concerts along with Ron Carter.
  19. About 8 or 9 fellow members in UK, Germany, Stockholm (hi Daniel !) and Tokyo. A real pleasure each time and in at least 3 cases, a gig was included. Sadly, JohnS, who I really enjoyed meeting at Southampton area gigs, is no longer with us.
  20. This is an essential Hutcherson Blue Note and a reissue, originally released in the Liberty era. Quite an adventurous release and prime Joe Henderson too. The Lewis/Higgins team also delivers as per usual. It was also reissued on CD as a Conn back in the 2000s and on vinyl in the latest Tone Poets. A gem.
