  1. Get the Mosaic vinyl set !
  2. Certainly there are several very interesting bands/names around, producing good music. I would put the guys from 'Empirical' and Jesper Hoiby (Danish import) in that category. Dave Stapleton's group is excellent too. I think they are performing in the SW (specifically, in Poole) fairly soon. Jason Yarde - yes, I think I saw him as part of Andrew Hill's UK big band and he certainly impressed in that.
  3. It's the new Cameronian 'export economy'. British Jazz Weeks in Hamburg in exchange for imports of BMWs and Audis !
  4. Dizzy Reece Alf Reece Rys Ifans
  5. Wow... Serenus was the label, apparently an independent label: http://www.justabuzz.com/serenus.shtml Yes, Serenus - that is the one. The UK sleeve design is completely different from the UK version. It is a foray into third-stream/serialism and critic Max Harrison wrote an interesting essay on it. Not altogether successful but certainly unique.
  6. Julian Siegel in particular is worth checking out. A solid and thoughful player - it should be a good gig.
  7. I have got a (mono) copy of that UK issue LP on the Columbia Lansdowne Series. The UK issue is the original, pretty sure it came out before that Atlantic (I suspect that Dennis Preston of Lansdowne Studios/Record Supervisoin Co. will have set that arrangement up for US issue on Atlantic). Incidentally, UK Columbia was an imprint of EMI and nothing to do with US Columbia/CBS. Several of those UK Columbias came out in the States. There's a rare David Mack 'New Directions' LP with Shake Keane but I don't think it came out on Atlantic per se. Maybe one of their subsidiaries?
  8. Essential stuff ! Listen to the track 'Caractacus'. Perfectly conjours up images of renegade Celtic Brit bandits doing last ditch guerilla warfare with Roman invaders to me !
  9. Jeez - the cover of mine is better than that one. I think I'll join the b(w)ankers and retire ! Total and utter insanity !

  14. Really? I fell asleep with boredom during the first episode (but maybe that's me..)
  15. Big Tea Mrs T Tea Mr Shifter
  16. Lady Di Lady Day Lady Gaga
  17. Bill Graham Harvey Weinstein Norman Granz
  18. One of the best shows I ever saw was McCoy's band with John Blake, Joe Ford etc. at Ronnie Scotts around 1982/83. Around the time of those Elektra albums. He was phenomenal !
  19. Happy late birthday, Big Al !
  20. You never see any British Jazz LPs of that ilk in charity shops! Looks like something I'd like to hear - sidewinder, did you win? No - didn't bid, have never heard it ! Not something I would want to take a blind punt on, at that price..
  21. Well - I didn't go for any of the 'sale' boxes but I have ordered a copy of the Buddy Rich and 2 of the singles (Witherspoon & JJ).
  22. This one is going balistic. A pretty obscure title, to say the least ! Bird Curtis Quintet
  23. An used copy of the NYT will work as well, and it's cheaper. 'Applause' label covers make a good bivouac..
  24. The deep-groove on both sides and significantly heavier vinyl will confirm whether or not it is the original, Bill. John - you are right, the 'Exploring The Future' has a sort of purple tinge to it. Don't have the Dexter, alas.
