  1. Mosaic Buddy Rich Verve, Emarcy, Argo Small Groups. CD1 - lots of familiar material here from various UK Verve LPs that I have but it's good to have it all compiled on CD. No complaints about the sound quality !
  2. Smitty Beryl The Peril Minny The Minx
  3. Mine arrived today too ! No tax on mine, fortuitously (and it was just the one set and a couple of singles). Quite right that they tax the Gnomes of Zurich My Rich set is #2753 by the way. So likely the number of 'real' Mosaics of this one was less than 2800 and the number of 'Euro' sets probably comparable, I guess. Around 5,000 out of a 10,000 'theoretical' run?

  5. My best wishes to the fellow board members to get through this OK - and also especially to Mr Tanno and his family.

You mean "t'Uptown Lass?" Has a certain ring to it..

    Billy Joel

I've had an allergy to Billy Joel since about 1975 at a girl's birthday party, where she insisted on playing to the assorted guests every LP Billy Joel and Leo Sayer ever made !
  8. Damn - sorry to hear that. I thought there was also one on the Western end of Oxford St - Southern side of the Street, towards Marble Arch. There certainly used to be one (since the 1970s in fact) but haven't checked it out so it recently so it may well be long gone. Berwick Street and Soul Jazz - totally second that recommendation. Handy for dim sum in Chinatown too !
  9. New York Art Quartet 'Mohawk' (UK Fontana stereo, Marte Rolling cover)
  10. Alan Partridge Bono Chris Rea
  11. The Mobley vinyl set went OOP quite a few years ago (2003 or earlier I think) - I don't think there were too many produced. Appears occasionally on ebay.
  12. Have a great birthday, FFA !
  13. Yes - they are doing all of the Atlantic Jazz Masters at £3 each at the moment. Plus quite a few Blue Notes at £3. There is one Fopp at Cambridge Circus (just above Covent Garden) which usually has a reasonable selection. Another good one at Torrington Place/Bloomsbury - right next to UCL.
  14. You'd be shocked as to how much more expensive housing/rents are in Ladbroke Grove these days, porcy. No longer an economy option (back in the 1970s/80s it was bed-sit land). You must have been living near Lansdowne Studio in Holland Park then? Sorry about the wee diversion
  15. This is an inside joke, right? The Mosaic vinyl is the best sounding version of this material that I've heard, in the absense of mint original Lps, IMO. But then, I'm biased..
  16. Hayes/Scott 'Jazz Couriers' - 'In Concert' (Japanese Sawano Tempo mono). 'Meet Don Rendell' (Japanese Sawano Tempo 10" mono)
  17. Hi Marcus - I can add something for the London bit of the equation. I see that you are staying in the Paddington area. From there it's not too far (maybe a tube ride or two) to Westbourne Grove - Honest Jon's is there (good CD selection including Sun Ras etc. plus some nice ska etc. on their own label), rare and expensive vinyl of all types at 'Intoxica' (bring a wheel barrow full of cash) and there's also the Rough Trade shop for alt. rock. All within the Notting Hill area - also check out Portobello Road Market, well worth a detour. Down on Oxford St I think there's still a HMV at the Marble Arch end. If you were heading towards the Oxford St/Tottenham Cour Road end then 'Ray's Jazz' is on the 3rd floor of Foyle's Bookshop, on Charing Cross Road (RHS heading down from Tottenham Court Road Tube). I was in there last week - no rarities at the moment I'm afraid . Have a great visit ! Lots of good drinking dens and also restaurants to suit all price levels in London these days. Good Chinese eateries around Soho/Gerrard St/Chinatown and a good selection of all cuisines around Charlotte St.

  19. Get the Mosaic vinyl set !
  20. Certainly there are several very interesting bands/names around, producing good music. I would put the guys from 'Empirical' and Jesper Hoiby (Danish import) in that category. Dave Stapleton's group is excellent too. I think they are performing in the SW (specifically, in Poole) fairly soon. Jason Yarde - yes, I think I saw him as part of Andrew Hill's UK big band and he certainly impressed in that.
  21. It's the new Cameronian 'export economy'. British Jazz Weeks in Hamburg in exchange for imports of BMWs and Audis !
  22. Dizzy Reece Alf Reece Rys Ifans
  23. Wow... Serenus was the label, apparently an independent label: http://www.justabuzz.com/serenus.shtml Yes, Serenus - that is the one. The UK sleeve design is completely different from the UK version. It is a foray into third-stream/serialism and critic Max Harrison wrote an interesting essay on it. Not altogether successful but certainly unique.
  24. Julian Siegel in particular is worth checking out. A solid and thoughful player - it should be a good gig.
