  1. I have got a (mono) copy of that UK issue LP on the Columbia Lansdowne Series. The UK issue is the original, pretty sure it came out before that Atlantic (I suspect that Dennis Preston of Lansdowne Studios/Record Supervisoin Co. will have set that arrangement up for US issue on Atlantic). Incidentally, UK Columbia was an imprint of EMI and nothing to do with US Columbia/CBS. Several of those UK Columbias came out in the States. There's a rare David Mack 'New Directions' LP with Shake Keane but I don't think it came out on Atlantic per se. Maybe one of their subsidiaries?
  2. Essential stuff ! Listen to the track 'Caractacus'. Perfectly conjours up images of renegade Celtic Brit bandits doing last ditch guerilla warfare with Roman invaders to me !
  3. Jeez - the cover of mine is better than that one. I think I'll join the b(w)ankers and retire ! Total and utter insanity !

  12. One of the best shows I ever saw was McCoy's band with John Blake, Joe Ford etc. at Ronnie Scotts around 1982/83. Around the time of those Elektra albums. He was phenomenal !
  13. Happy late birthday, Big Al !
  14. You never see any British Jazz LPs of that ilk in charity shops! Looks like something I'd like to hear - sidewinder, did you win? No - didn't bid, have never heard it ! Not something I would want to take a blind punt on, at that price..
  15. Well - I didn't go for any of the 'sale' boxes but I have ordered a copy of the Buddy Rich and 2 of the singles (Witherspoon & JJ).
  16. This one is going balistic. A pretty obscure title, to say the least ! Bird Curtis Quintet
  17. An used copy of the NYT will work as well, and it's cheaper. 'Applause' label covers make a good bivouac..
  18. The deep-groove on both sides and significantly heavier vinyl will confirm whether or not it is the original, Bill. John - you are right, the 'Exploring The Future' has a sort of purple tinge to it. Don't have the Dexter, alas.

  20. Original or the 70s second pressing? How do you tell? I'm not sure never having seen an original, but most Dootones around are second pressings. They suddenly became available around the 70s/ early 80s. They look pretty authentic. I've actually got that Carl Perkins in a first and second pressing. The original has 'Dooto' on the label and is deep groove. The 2nd pressing (early 70s) has 'Dootone' I think and a slightly different colouration on label, no deep groove. My Curtis Counce 'Exploring The Future' is also a second pressing. B&W cover, whereas the original was a colour cover I believe,

  24. All feeling very 1981 to me. No doubt the vinyl LPs will be going from 180g to "waffer-thin" real soon..
  25. Original or the 70s second pressing?
