  1. I'll bet they're not using original Blue Note LPs to try it out !
  2. I'll be ordering it around 2015 After the Braxton, Threeadgill, MJQ, Herman, Rich etc etc etc
  3. Same here! Ditto. It's brilliant !
  4. Private Fraser Pike The Verger
  5. Love that one, John, especially the two jumpin' Krupa tracks and Gerry's wonderful voicings on "All the Tbings You Are"! Referred to once by Humph in a BBC radio broadcast as 'an arrangement as dense as a Fair-Isle' sweater. Couldn't be more right !
  6. Weren't they still operating in some form at Harold Moore's Records, Gt Marlborough St? (the place with no notice on the door, hazardous door-knob and secret password to get in). They were here the last time I visited, in the upstairs bit - after the closure they moved downstairs into the main store I think (haven't visited). Well, I guess it is a major recession and Ed Dipple originally started by mail order 1974/75 so the timing is right ! In fact, Mole at their peak was in the early 80s recession. Haven't heard anything of this rumour, by the way. Great Marlborough St is on the edge of Soho, so that could be the source of the rumour. (Mole's original site at Kings Cross pre-redevelopment (if it ever happens)
  7. Yeah, I was holding out for a Euro-set too but never saw it over here at the sort of price Zwei used to do (and I don't think it was part of any of their offers). In fact I only ever saw it for sale at the London Oxford St HMV, briefly at that - and over £100 !
  8. No Problem!!! Anyways, I will let you know what set number I get when it comes in late next week (they are shipping it on Monday)---I also ordered the Woody Herman Columbia set as well, any opinions on that? I need to go on a Mosaic hiatus until May when the MJQ set comes out. SELF DISCIPLINE! I only have the Capitol Woody Herman (which is fine) but I'm sure that the Columbia set will be excellent. It's on my list too.
  9. Parlophone is back though ! (although used to peddle crap)
  10. Thanks for the clarification, Jazz Nut !
  11. Oh Buddah ! Wonder how many of the Rich sets they've got in on this last batch (was it 500 of this one or 500 of the Jones?). Either way, I need to order it. Total quantity for this one was slated at 10,000 so I guess they will have sold way less than this.
  12. Archie Bunker Larry Bunker Leisure Suit Larry
  13. Definitely get it checked out !
  14. Phil Nimmons Ed Bickert Moe Koffmann
  15. There was an eye-watering stall at NorthSea a few years ago with literally everything on 32 Jazz and Label M on offer. Bought a few but should have splurged on a suitcase-full ! All of the Shaws were available.
  16. Pigby The Maggon Ridlex 6000
  17. The release of this set is a big suprise - and welcome ! Good news for Mosaic I think as it should sell nicely - and good news for us as it helps to keep Mosaic in a healthy business position. I will definitely get this set. Those original Atlantic LPs can often be compromised. Several that I have (in particular an original 'The Comedy') have more surface noise than I would like so replacing with a CD set won't go amiss. I'm also missing quite a few of these sessions. The tasteful black & white Mosaic booklet format sans cover art comes in useful as they won't have to print the cover of 'Plastic Dreams'. (didn't see that one in the list - but presumably it would be included?)
  18. Wasn't that great ! It must have been filmed just as the Beeching cuts were in progress. The programme certainly gave me a huge respect for Sister Rosetta Tharpe. A real pro !
  19. I remember really liking them when I first picked these up 'back in the day' when I was in that demographic. 'Very sophisticated' and sort of cryptic. They look a bit of a period piece now but I still quite like them ! The first series at least was issued in the UK too (by UA/Transatlantic I think) and they were available for £2.99 (I paid £1.99 for many of them as deletions). The later issues were US-only, more expensive (£3.99 and up).
  20. Got the flyer too and that was also my reaction to it. Cheltenham seems to have lost it as far as jazz is concerned. Nothing against Mr Cullum but this festival is getting increasingly commoditised into some sort of lifestyle brand that hinges around the Cullum gig. What about all of those smaller, interesting gigs focussed around the Town Hall of years passed. Ben Allison, Henry Grimes, Vandermark, Bennie Maupin? I blame some of the locals e.g. Jeremy Clarkson and his Cotswold lifestyle mafia in their 4x4s and designer wellies I'm sure (hopeful?) that Bath will be better. Well, Cheltenham is that sort of place! Certainly won't be any celebrations at the Wigan Jazz Festival, if the 2,000 Manchester City Council sackings and the rapturous reception of Bruce Adams' George Bush jokes at a previous festival are anything to go by! Incidentally, I'm quite hopeful that wedding day will also be strikes and demos day. Sounds like a festival with heart. Gross. As good an excuse for a Mingusian alternative festival as there is.
  21. Yes, I have read that mayhem is predicted in Egypt over the next year or so. Damn shame.
  22. The Talented Mr Ripley Arnold Ridley Godfrey's Sisters
  23. There's a moving scene in 'The Battle Of Britain' where she encounters a pilot who is very badly facially burned due to crash injuries. The actor playing this, Bill Foxley, was playing this for real and had actually undergone experimental facial plastic surgery and lost an eye in the Battle - a truly heroic figure. Incredibly, he lived a very full life and died only about a week before Susannah York as it turned out - which is a sort of strange coincidence.
  24. Euen Morgan Euen Blair Oliver Reed
  25. Just announced that Susannah York has passed away at the age of 72. Susannah York - BBC Beautiful, down to earth lady - and a very good mother to her kids by all accounts. RIP, a very sad loss.
