The Ellington is definitely on my list. That's an interesting approach - maybe I should wait for the next shipping sale and do a bulk purchase too. Or maybe just visit Connecticut and cut out the middle-man !
The Monk and Ella on LP look tempting too.
First time I saw Gwilym was with that Kenny Wheeler 75th tour (where he fitted into John Taylor's shoes quite nicely) and then the fine commission he did a few years ago at Cheltenham.
Sounds like he's become quite a hit on the continent !
I passed on the vinyl of it a while back. It was near mint too.
Hardly had the nerve to hand it over to the pretty female cashier ! Like being a schoolboy and buying a copy of Penthouse..
This thread has got me thinking back to the Bill Evans London appearances. The comments about the distancing from Helen Keane are intruiging. I'm pretty sure she was sat near the front at the Ronnie Scotts 1980 performances and accompanied Evans to the bandstand too at the start of sets etc. - either that or senility is setting in in my case.
Yes, the Johnny Smith is a good set. To be honest, it's not one I pull out very often but the guitar fans out there will like it. The remastering is excellent.
