  3. Sorry to hear this sad news. I've a couple of his books and enjoyed them both - most recently read the one about the Nazis and jazz that Allen mentions earlier. 'Close Enough For Jazz' is a book that I've delved into many times over the years and always been amazed that he did that transition from US steel industry boss to French resident (and somehow via Birth Of The Cool and 'Magic Of Ju-Ju' as mentioned earlier). Always came across as a very 'grounded' guy - RIP Mr Zwerin.

  5. Isn't that one on back-order at Mosaic? (you must have got it from a retailer, I guess). It's on my shortlist of Selects, for sure (even though I have all the originals - love this stuff).
  6. Get well soon Mr Jones !
  7. Quite plausible until I read this. Nice one ! 'King Kong (with Kirk)' almost had me spilling the morning mug of tea.
  8. Happy Birthday again !
  9. A couple of albums that I have just picked up: Pacific Eardrum 'Beyond Panic' (Charisma) - Dave MacRae/Joy Yates/ Billy Kristian etc. Nice Nucleus-ish fusion from 1978 Lucky Thompson 'Dancing Sunbeam' (Impulse 2LP)

  16. Yes - on Dooto/Dootone.
  17. Edition Carrere - that's the ones I have. Mole Jazz used to have tons of those in the deletion racks ! The early UK RCAs were on heavy-ish vinyl - I try to pick them up whenever I can find in good nick.
  18. The 3 Commodore sets coming out on a (copy protected) Euro-USB stick?
  19. Sadly not, John - didn't realise he actually toured the UK back in the 90s. I did get to see him very close up at one of those LA jazz fests back in 1999 when he had his arm in a sling due to an accident/ilness (?) but insisted on leading his band and introducing it on stage (Harold Land played at that fest too, who I did get to briefly meet - again, fabulous). The NYC gig was the one time I did get to hear Teddy on tenor and it was hugely impressive. From what I saw, came across as a very nice guy. I'll put some Teddy Edwards on deck today !
  20. Nice touch putting the '58 cherry on top! I'm just part way thru the Hampton, but wow, I'm still scratching my head over why I didn't order it sooner. The sound samples of the Hamp on Mosaic's site sound great - looking forward to this one. And also to wading into the early Ellington and Chu Berry sets. Which is something I'm going to do with the Benedetti Parker today. Have the 'Cosmic Scene' so the 'Ellington 58' was a no-brainer. It was either that or JJ and Kai.
  21. Believe it or not I once saw Teddy play live in NYC. It was right at the end of his playing career and he played superbly (John Hicks was on piano). At the 'Jazz Standard' I think.
  22. Based in Andorra - or the UK ? I have to believe that this is an April Fool. No way would they do this, right?
  23. More surface noise than the RCAs, in my experience. I have quite a few of each type.
  24. Finally got round to ordering. I've made it this years main Mosaic order and gone for the Hampton, Chu Berry and Ellington Small Groups sets. Plus the 'Ellington 58' single to hit the shipping limit. Looks like I'm in for a PhD course in swing music. Wakey wakey !!
