  2. Yes, in the big scheme of my current frustrations, Pacific Jazz Trios is a '10', Dex is a '9' (there's a vinyl fall-back for some of the set) and Freddie S. is a '1'
  3. Understandable , given that these tracks are likely part of a Voice Of America transcription disc of a concert performance in Europe (possibly Germany) . They're "in circulation"... I have the date as January 5, and Köln (Cologne, Germany) as location. Wright and White are only "probables" there... at least so say my files... nothing certain there, really, but I guess the compended "knowledge" of collectors is more reliable than the (useful though) crappy jazzdisco.org site. Weren't these on 'dime' a while ago? (or am I thinking of some other DeFranco material?)
  4. Of all the black-hole Selects, that's probably the one I'm least put out about (although I'll probably regret that statement).
  5. The Brookmeyer Select is really good, from what I've heard so far. 'Street Swingers' really cooks and both Jim Hall and Jimmy Raney fit in very well ! Looking forward to hearing 'Kansas City Revisited' with the late Alberta legend, Big Miller.
  6. Greg Lake Keith Emerson chewy
  7. Yes, Happy Birthday !
  8. Duke Pearson Mosaic Select, CD3. Nice ! Really like Duke P's interpretations of the Xmas classics on 'Merry Ole Soul'. Not like me to play Xmas music in September , I think it's going to get lots of airplay during the Xmas Season this year.
  9. I remember one Saturday when the Tower Picadilly Circus had the full set of those UK CBS Brit Jazz reissues (Frank Ricotti, Howard Riley, Ray Russell etc) on 'special' at £5 and on demo in the the listening stations. I pontificated and in the end decided to buy them next visit. Big mistake !
  10. Sadly, my order with JazzLoft has been voided as OOS - although they emailed fairly promptly to clarify. Not one to hold your breath on. Wish they would update their website !
  11. Great story - I hope he makes the 'one more international tour' in the next year or so. Inspiring stuff !
  12. And the occasional mis-priced gem. Like Horace Tapscott 'The Dark Tree' 2CD for £10. The ground floor 2nd hand CD selection in Mole was always worth a look. A good place to find nice Toshiba Blue Notes for around £7-8.
  13. Up again for this thread - I was interested in the comments relating to sound quality. CD1 sounds OK to me so far - pretty good in fact (set #1056).
  14. Lou Donaldson Blue Note 57-60, CD1
  15. Lenny Breau's RCA albums are good to listen to at this hour..
  16. Ike Quebec - of course. Any of his Blue Notes are perfect at that hour.
  17. Glad you snagged that copy! It's fine music - there seems to be a bias (with reason I guess) against Q on this board, but regardless of all the debates, the music on this set is great! The thing to bear in mind with the 'Q' Mosaic is that I think his key role here is as driving force/organiser and not necessarily as arranger. There's mighty fine stuff from Bill Byers, Benny Golson and Bill Potts for example on this set and pretty well a who's who of top early 60s soloists. Great set ! Whoah ! The very same titles have just been delivered from Mosaic 'chez moi'. Uncanny !
  18. The stuff on Duke Pearson's Mosaic Select would definitely come into this category. And - strangely enough - quite a bit of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis set.
  19. Quincy Jones ABC/Mercury Big Band Jazz Sessions, CD2. Living up completely to expectations.
  20. Good choices King Ubu. Pretty well any of the Bobby Hutcherson Blue Notes, including the 70s material. Pete LaRoca 'Basra' Andrew Hill 'Grass Roots' and the Mosaic Quincy Jones set that I am currently spinning. Nice, relaxed, hugely enjoyable.
  21. Pacific Jazz Trios = Our quest -
  22. Stiff Little Fingers Half Man Half Biscuit Teenage Jesus and the Jerks
  23. Gordon Brown Jilted John John Shuttleworth
  24. Thanks for the tip. We'll see how it goes with the Gordon.
