  1. Duke Pearson 'Sweet Honey Bee' (BN Liberty blue/white mono)
  2. Very sad to hear this - I'll be sure to dig out the Mosaic set this weekend, have always liked his PJ sessions. And what a prolific player too ! Just saw him the once out in LA but it was over several days of concerts so I got to hear him quite a bit. He was on very good form and was happy to sign a program for me. RIP Mr Shank.
  3. Much like Sven and England or, come to think of it, Sven and anyone. He should just stick to entertaining the Ladies.. Fabio is a better bet for England anyway.

  12. What 45rpm 2LP set are you spinning right now? Favourite Mosaics (Roman edition)
  13. Always good to check that place out - an outstanding musical emporium. I remember coming out of there around 1989 with a load of early Blue Note CDs (Andrew Hill 'Black Fire' and 'Point Of Departure', Joe Henderson 'Our Thing' etc, must have been McMasters) on special. The LP racks were also worth checking out on the second floor. I don't think I ever once came out of that place empty handed. I remember reading an interview around that time by Wayne Shorter in the 'Globe' and he was mentioned as spending an afternoon checking out the jazz racks in Sams and the place next door (A&B Sound?), prior to doing a gig in Toronto. A&B Sound were also very good for picking up new release Blue Note CDs on special offer. I think it was the basement level that had all of the good deals stacked out (on display in their cardboard boxes - which dates the whole thing quite a bit I guess ! (although it seems not so long ago... sigh) :rsmile: ).
  14. Afraid this one's not in the big Mingus box. I think the Debut Story 4CD box has a track or two from it though - must check. I have the OJC LP and it's definitely an interesting listen !
  15. Quick recommendation here for Farrell with Elvin Jones on 'Outback', also on CTI. That one (predictably) smokes too.
  16. Hope it was a good one !
  17. This one is very cool - she has a fine voice and the band cooks. Big thanks to Weizen for my $2 copy at the legendary Concord clearout !
  18. Strange - I would have thought Comrade Che would have been on that rogues' gallery list?
  19. Thanks for the explanation. I've been scratching my head over that one for years. And not to forget all the great Joe Farrell solos on those early Thad & Mel Solid State albums..
  20. Nice to see 'Honi Gordon Sings' unexpectedly back on the release schedule. And maybe its time for me to pick up Duke P's 'Dedication'.
  21. The 'fragrant' Mary Archer Jeffrey Archole Archie Bunker
  22. I would have missed it myself Brownie but for a chance viewing of that "Times" obituary. PS - You are like the Gandalf of the Org board !
