  1. Thelonious Monk Quartet 'Monk's Dream' (Columbia 2-eye, stereo)
  2. Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Mosaic LP set, LPs 1 and 2
  3. I've got my copy framed.
  4. Ronnie Scott/Tubby Hayes 'The Jazz Couriers' (Tempo, mono)
  5. I sent in an order for all the Mighty Quinns, as well as for the Hubbard Mosaic Contemporary which can be had there for a sale prize, too! Mighty Quinn themselves have a 10$ sale for all their releases, too... might have been the smarter option, but as I went with surface shipping, it's cheaper to order from TrueBlue, with air mail I'd have to calculate anew. Excited to finally get to hear the Adams, Condon, Quinichette, and Hall, and to get a legal copy of the Land at last (had a vinyl rip for years). You obviously got a birthday windfall. Either that or there was another raid on the Swiss banks..
  6. Manuel Basil Polly
  7. The whole of that 'Jazz 625' JATP at Poplar Town Hall (2 shows - about 1hr 30) is amazing. Not only Hawk, Diz and Zoot but also Clark Terry, Teddy Wilson, James Moody and Louis Bellson. The 'T-Bone' performance is a great little interlude - totally incongruous with the music coming before and after (some of the musicians looked a bit bemused by it and I'm not sure what the audience made of it - muted applause) but, in retrospect, a gem.
  8. Obviously Clifford didn't get there fast enough
  9. Yes, it's the heavier vinyl on 'Cornbread'. All of the copies I've seen (including mine) also seem to have a slanted RHS sleeve opening - as if they mis-aligned the guillotine !
  10. Gen Schwarzkopf Sgt Slaughter Sgt Buzzcut
  11. Have a great Birthday !
  12. Ken Snakehips Johnson Adderley brothers Viper('s Drag) Hissing Sid Sid Snot Cupid Stunt
  13. Not the way to become a target for one of their hot dates! Heck - I don't think they are into dating guys their father's age. I would also need to become a fan of Boyzone or whoever is currently 'in' - instead of Grachan Moncur III
  14. I've got a ticket for this show. Looking forward to it !
  15. I am currently surrounded by women at work who natter away like turkeys for most of the day talking about hot dates, X-Factor and their forthcoming holidays so the IPod 160 GB loaded with the Miles Davis Columbia box sets comes into its own.
  16. Ida Red Ida Cox Ida Lupino
  17. Joshua Ezekiel Lot
  18. Larry Young 'Into Somethin'' (BN NY USA mono)
  19. Heck, some of us on here can remember that one being released. Now spinning Grant Green 'Street Of Dreams' (BN Liberty blue/white stereo)
  20. Very Happy Birthday !
  21. Definitely 1973. That was pretty shocking - the way that power was cut off to whole streets and everyone was reading with candles. Even as a youngster the seriousness of the situation was brought home to me that year - and into 1974. To be honest, it took from then to around 1983/84 before things really started seriously recovering from all of that -at least over much of the UK. After the eventual IMF bailout had been and gone. (sound familiar?) And I would agree that the present circumstances, serious as they are - are not quite as bad as that particular time. And orange and brown paisley flock wallpaper is no longer 'in'. Of course there was that fantastic period of British jazz - with much experimentation with rock and world music - starting in the early 60s and which was curtailed somewhat around 1972/73 with the 70s crisis kicking in. Shame I missed most of it at the time but thankfully the music survives.
  22. Where it remains to this day.
  23. While I'd agree with that advice too, I can't take credit for it, that was Harold! Woops. Put it down to early morning weekend half-asleepness. The jazz on TV last night was too good.
  24. Yep - see the 'BBC4' thread.
  25. Ian Carr & SME 'Springboard' (Polydor, stereo) National Youth Jazz Orchestra - 'NYJO' (Philips, stereo). Arrangements by Graham Collier, Mike Gibbs etc.
