  1. "Vinyl is back from the dead - scratchier and crapper than ever, reeking of urine and seething with maggots" The boy obviously needs a VPI machine.
  2. Lil Hardin Louis Armstrong Buzz Aldrin
  3. It actually sounds quite good.... and it has the cover art..... and it was £5 I did actually come across a copy of Horace's Phase 1 in the bins a few years ago but the picture of the kaftan turned me off.
  4. Cannonball Adderley 'Dem Dirty Blues' (Riverside, stereo)
  5. Cheers ! Grooves are usually clear, it's just me thats full of the crud.
  6. Spooky. Looks like the 'House of Blue Lights' on a pontoon !
  7. If you like Phase III then you will like the other two I think. Phase 1 is the 'hardest' of the 3 with George Coleman on tenor. Of course, I speak from experience of listening to the 2CD Conn set, heresy I know..
  8. Yes, he was good - and the blurb in the gig handout mentioned that he was a member of the SFJC. Great little gig. Wonderfully atmospheric Victorian country church straight out of Thomas Hardy Central Casting lit up on the outside with flame torches and with a mini bar-marquee serving good wine by the glass. Tres posh ! :rsmile:
  9. Thanks guys ! :rsmile:
  10. No but I've got the DVD of that performance on Eagle Vision. I assume that's what they were broadcasting?
  11. Count de Money Philly Joe Jones Count Arthur Strong
  12. I missed that duo performance in Bath with Tom Arthurs unfortunately but I did catch his own trio (very good) later in the year. Last time I saw Taylor was with Danielsson and France so will be interesting to check out the new lineup. I've never seen a less than very good performance from John Taylor (ever since I caught that first gig with Norma Winstone and Tony Coe)
  13. That's great news ! 'Goodbye Porkpie Hat' must be a shoe-in. 'Half-Mast Inhibitions' and 'Fables of Faubus' maybe less so..
  14. Thank you ! I think it's a new trio with Matt Penman and Hayden Chisholm - both Kiwis. The church is in a tiny place called Plush just outside Piddletrenthide ie. in the middle of nowhere. Lovely spot - here's the link: Plush
  15. Pee Wee Ellis Pee Wee Russell Pee Wee Erwin
  16. How strange. Can't stand bikes but I like cars.
  17. John Taylor Trio in a beautiful Dorset former country church setting. Should be fantastic !
  18. No kidding ! With the £ at $1.75, I wouldn't expect to pay more than $55-60 in the US, even allowing for postage and admin.
  19. Stan Getz 'Getz Au Go Go' (UK Verve, mono)
  20. Yes, I guess I am but certainly not to some of the extremes that you see on, say, the Hoffman board. Any improvement made is incremental, has to be cost effective and make a very tangible improvement to the listening pleasure. I also often go for second-hand and ex-demo parts where this is possible. I started out with a simple music centre, which did its stuff for some years and have over the decades built things up gradually from there. Amazing how some of the best audiophile experiences are with 50+ year old records. I've also got reasonable space to put this stuff and its not vulnerable to damage by kids, dogs etc. If it was I'd be back to the music centre in a flash !
  21. Cesar Romero Caesar Brutus
  22. I enjoyed the Cook book but it was a bit cursory, to say the least. Looking forward to this one ! And hopefully there's something positive in there about Grachan Moncur.
  23. Cool. Sandwiched in there in the chart between Kenny G and Dave Koz
