  7. The Rugby fever is building up here but the pessimist/realist in me says that there could be quite a lot of disgruntled and sore heads in England on Sunday morning..
  8. Jeez - Costco selling 'Jazz Icons' now? Series One I know but I checked out the Gillespie last night. Had no idea that Sonny Stitt would be on the first performance (Belgium) but there he was, playing right at his 1950s peak. Priceless. The Clarke/Boland + Gillespie performance from 1970 (Denmark) was also great, with Diz in good solo form and well complemented by the CBBB playing a mix of Gillespie and Boland band material. Some fine solos from Derek Humble and Ronnie Scott too - as a reminder on just how good they were.
  9. You'd absolutely hate it here then ! (English hamlet - there was one staring right at me as I looked out from upstairs this morning) Toronto used to be pretty good for jazz, at least it was 15-20 years ago. A lot of fine US bands used to do shake-out weeks there before heading on the road, to the advantage of the locals.
  10. I believe they retailed for $108. Doesn't $18 an LP sound right? That would be correct I think.
  11. Full of Miss Marples clones and psychos
  12. Can't have been much over $100.
  13. Wes Montgomery/Oliver Nelson 'Goin' Out Of My Head' (UK Verve, stereo)
  14. I'll be getting hold of the whole box for series 2 and picking up the remaining ones from series 1 as singles. No duds whatsoever so far (Quincy, Diz, Buddy Rich).
  15. Sounds like Pat. One of the nicest guys you could ever wish to meet.

  19. Sad news. She even recorded an LP titled 'Theresa Brewer In London' which had the cockney/music hall piano and vocal duo 'Oily Rags' (aka Chas and Dave) on it. An unlikely combination, if ever there was one. I guess the connection must have been through Bob Thiele, who also recorded Oily Rags with Oliver Nelson.
  20. I grabbed hold of the Dizzy Gillespie DVD from series 1 at my local store - looks great with the Clarke/Boland Band also featured on the second session.
  21. Freddie Hubbard 'Breaking Point' (BN NY USA mono)
  22. Only ever got to see one jazz gig in Seattle (Stanley Turrentine at Jazz Alley) but it was memorable. Nice club !
