  1. My sentiments too !
  2. Good news from Mosaic. The Oliver Nelson is now swapped for a Johnny Smith (I paid the extra), pending availability of the Hodges (5-7 days). The Oliver Nelson is also on order from Amazon UK.
  3. Sadly, the roll call is badly depleted since 1999 when I caught one of these excellent events. Names from that event that come to mind that are no longer with us include Lou Levy, Harold Land, Conte Candoli, Teddy Edwards, Cy Touff, Bob Enevoldsen - just for starters. Fortunately, the great Bill Holman is still going strong.
  4. Damn - very sorry to hear that. Definitely a good presence on many of Kirk's Atlantic sessions. RIP
  5. Another couple of spins for 'Fuchsia swing Song'
  6. I'll bet Sam himself has booklet 001 ! 'Pete Johnson/Earl Hines/Teddy Bunn Blue Note Sessions'
  7. I think it coincided with that giveaway at zweitausendeins and jpc. I bought 4 of them at that price, around that time. Ah - nostalgia !
  8. My sentimemts too. Watched a bit of the match on Saturday but found it boring (and not only coz the England team lost). SA played better and deserved to win but it was certainly not a classic. Rugby League seems to flow a lot better IMO. Not that I'm a great fan of that either.
  9. My thoughts exactly Yves. I can see a Gillespie set coming into play ! On second thoughts though, that's 7CDs. Perhaps the Lou Donaldson then.
  10. It seems to have spontaneously combusted !
  11. Jeez ! What label is that one on?
  12. Ray Draper Bill Barber Brother Ah
  13. Sam Rivers 'Fuchsia Swing Song' (BN NY USA mono). Critic Chris Sheridan's old copy, according to the signature on the back. I've never heard Tony Williams captured on vinyl as well as on this particular pressing.
  14. It's only Sunday, but this is line of the week! 3CDs of Bob Cooper and 3 CDs of Shelly's band recorded at the venue, I think.
  15. It's €79,99 (about $114) at JPC. It seems Amazon U.K. are the winners with £33.97 or about €48,80 / $69.60 JPC have the Gillespie for Euro 79.99, which is a bit cheaper for us Brits than Amazon's current price. Hope this one moves down to the £33 Amazonian price point soon !
  16. Gets a big from me. The NY USA mono LP sounds stonkin'.
  17. Fascinating. When I saw it back around 1999 it was a non-descript walk-in print shop full of photocopiers and the like. It was hard to picture it as the Manne-Hole but from your photos it's not too difficult to recognise the place as being that on the Shelly Manne Contemporary covers. The far brick wall and the ceiling lamps give it away. Unfortunately I couldn't have a look around as it was at night (I was coming out of the 'Potato' having just seen Hank Jones) and the place was closed up and dark. By the way, I believe that Wally Heider's recording studio was right next door !
  18. Miles Davis Blackhawk set, LP3
  19. Collett's Doug Dobell's Chris Wellard's
  20. Wouldn't you just know it - the Oliver Nelson shows up on the Amazon UK site at £33.97. Unbelievable ! The Gillespie is still well over £60 though.
  21. Benny Goodman Capitol Set, LPs 1 and 2
  22. Is it Shelly's Manne-Hole? (just a few doors down from the Baked Potato on Nth Cahuanga Bvd). Last time I saw it it was a print shop.
