  1. A suprisingly good and very greezy album.
  2. Yes, best wishes Chris A !
  3. Nice post - and congrats ! I can relate to the sense of excitement you mention - and the challenges - of the transatlantic emigration experience from 'Old Europe'.
  4. Word has it on the other board that the box, as a physical entity, is now out on the streets in the US ! Could be bum info though..
  5. Nope, don't know that one I'm afraid but I'll bet it's good. She is a class act and Ronnie Scott used to always book her in to the club during the glory days of that institution. Vocalion has some interesting looking Salena Jones CDs (originally on UK CBS) too...
  6. Saw snippetts of the Wes and the Coltrane today on the Jazz Icons 'Trade Sampler' DVD and they look fabulous !
  7. Keith Tippett Group 'You Are Here.... I Am There' (Akarma stereo 180g reissue) - with Elton Dean, Marc Charig, Nick Evans.
  8. Probably this one on original 12".. and this one:
  9. Not by me. Love that particular NY USA mono pressing and great cover too !
  10. But this one sounds GREAT ! I was suprised at just how good. Same with the 'Latin Adventures'. I bought a stack of them at Mole in the deletions rack best part of 30 years ago. :rsmile: Their Prestige twofers, on the other hand, are often a disappontment.
  11. What a drag - sorry to hear this news and hope it gets sorted out OK with the insurance. That's really odd though about the dream.
  12. Clarke/Boland Big Band 'Fellini 712' (French MPS stereo)
  13. Yes, big congrats - considering the size of the US the 13th ranking must be awesome.
  14. I'm still working my way through the Winter stock of the year but last.
  15. And he's on one of my very favourite Buddy Rich albums, the 'Very Alive At Ronnie Scotts'.
  16. Got an email from Amazon today saying that the item I bought with the Monk box was now shipping and that the Monk box would ship separately. Sounds sort of promising..
  17. Stick the box in a vat of alodine solution and paint in Nato matt battle-green.
  18. Blimey, I wasn't dreaming. According to wikipedia he was Welk's musical director, no less ! "Lin Biviano (born ) is a jazz trumpet player. He is noted for his extreme power, especially in the upper register, and his distinctive fast vibrato. His style is similar to that of the late Chet Ferretti, who was his biggest influence. He has performed and/or recorded with such musicians as Woody Herman, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, Glenn Miller, Jimmy Dorsey, Harry James, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, and Bill Chase, mostly playing lead trumpet. He has served as musical director for the Lawrence Welk orchestra since the 1980s. From 1974-1976 he led his own big band; they toured the East Coast and recorded a demo but were unable to secure a record contract. In the mid-1960s he attended Berklee School of Music (now Berklee College of Music), and in the 1980s he was asked to return as a teacher; as of 2007 he is still on the faculty, teaching mainly private lessons and ensembles."
  19. Trumpeter Lyn Biviano comes to mind. No way, Biviano? He didn't gig with LW, did he? C'mon you're joshing, ain't you? Whilst in Canada I caught a Welk tribute show on one of the channels (as one does on a slow Sunday afternoon) and there was a (very short) segment on jazz musicians who had worked with him. Biviano's name came up, at which point I woke out of my coma.
  20. Happy Birthday Reinier !
  21. Columbia Jazz Piano Moods CD5 - some really nice Teddy Wilson. In anticipation of the 'sale' boxes
  22. Frank Evans's 'Frankly Jazz'. Hopefully that series gets put out on DVD some day. Jazz Crusaders, Bud Shank, Clare Fisher, CurtisAmy/Dupree Bolton, Paul Horn.
