  1. Has it been through a pulveriser?
  2. More from the 'Bebop In Britain' 4CD box set on Esquire/Charly. Kenny Graham's Afro Cubists. Brilliant !
  3. Maybe us 'Yurapeans' should club together and buy a ticket for someone (me? ) to go over to Stamford and buy a bulk purchase of sets for us all, in person, and maybe save money on P&P?
  4. Being a bopmeister, I'll probably pass on this Condon set. I have the earlier set on vinyl but although I enjoy it, it's not one I reach for frequently. Having said that, I'll probably get a bout of 'trigger finger'..
  5. Anthony Williams 'Spring' (BN NY USA mono)
  6. Sigh...... Can't believe we have the words 'Bee Gees' even mentioned in the Mosaic thread !
  7. I wonder if they will be getting any more discount Universal Mosaics in? (Gillespie, Rich, Nelson). Doesn't look too promising, based on the limited new jazz offerings of late.
  8. That's as good a reason as any for me to ignore these guys and their dubious offerings. (although I did capitulate once on one of the Jazz Studio CDs, shame on me.. ) Got increasingly p*ssed yesterday looking through the racks of a shop which seemed to be bursting at the seams with Lonehill.
  9. Hi ! I'm in for a download as well please (assuming my broadband service doesn't play up again ).
  10. MJQ 'Under The Jasmin Tree' (UK Apple)
  11. A bit later today. In tribute to Alice Coltrane: McCoy Tyner 'Expansions' (BN Liberty stereo) John Coltrane/Alice Coltrane 'Cosmic Music' (Coltrane Records stereo) In tribute to Michael Brecker: Pat Metheny '80/81' (ECM)
  12. Deep condolences to the family and may her spirit Rest In Peace. I'm stunned.
  13. Anyone else seen this one? Superb performance by Forrest Whittaker in the title role of Idi Amin. Remember seeing Amin on a TV chat show ( ) many years ago charming the pants off of the host and getting away with it (somewhat spookiliy he was on the show with his 3 wives I think). Forrest has done a GREAT job playing this monster. Recommended !

    MICHAEL BRECKER

Words fail me, this is absolutely tragic news. May he Rest In Peace. Saw him live just the once back in about 1980, firing on 6 cylinders in a London Jazz Festival tribute to Charlie Parker, one of the best performances on a stage full of jazz greats. A fitting memory.
  15. The Shorty Rogers Capitol/Atlantic Mosaic set for starters !

  17. Every damn CD store over here seems to have jacked up its prices, even for RVGs Hence: diddly squat..

  19. Buddy Rich 'Strike It Rich' (UK Verve 2LP set). With Sonny Criss and Harry Edison Sonny Criss 'Sonny's Dream (Birth of the New Cool)' (Prestige green label stereo)
  20. Also worth mentioning that Esquire was literally a two-man London-based operation. Carlo Krahmer and Peter Newbrook. Another of the great double-acts of Jazz record label production.
  21. Stan Tracey Big Brass 'Alice In Jazzland' (Columbia/Lansdowne stereo)
  22. Here's the earlier, Esquire version of the Wardell Gray:
  23. ......Reporting In ! Yep, I've got a number of them. Unfortunately no cover art samples that I can post, at this time. Particular faves: The various Dolphy's - 'Out There', 'Outward Bound' and 'Five Spot Vol 1' Webster Young's 'For Lady' - issued under Paul Quinichette's name and with cover art by Brit drummer John Marshall ! The Elmo Hope 'Informal Jazz' Mal Waldron's 'Impressions' (moody coastal shot) Steve Lacy 'Soprano Sax' (pretty rare one this, I think). Sound-wise my fave at the moment is the Roland Kirk 'Kirk's Work'. HUGE sound.
  24. Jazz Crusaders Pacific Jazz, various disks on MP3. Currently Blue Mitchell, CD#2 (big )
