King LPs from Hiroshi is the best option. How he sources the LPs in that fabulous condition beats me !
The original LPs are the way to go sound-wise - but mortgage your house..
It's stunning to think of all of those brilliant UK Tempo sessions done by Dizzy Reece back in 1955/56/57-ish and here he is still gigging in NYC and enthusiastically making music. Inspiring !
Shake Keane 'That's The Noise' (Ace of Clubs, mono). Typical but not unpleasant covers of 60s pop tunes for most of the LP, then Stan Tracey comes to life on the funky last track. A fascinating LP !
Wayne Shorter 'Schizophrenia' (BN Liberty, stereo)
This one is the same cover art as the Prestige, I believe. The one that Clifford mentions is 'Outward Bound' I think (have that one also in the Esquire edition) - cover art by John Marshall ! They can be scarce as only a very limited pressing was done for most of the titles back in the late 50s/early 60s. UK pressings then came under the Transatlantic/XTRA logos.
Very punchy. One of the best sound of the Prestige vinyls!
My copy has spun a lot of times and is still pristine!
Agreed. I was amazed how good my New Jazz sounds. Very BIG overall sound, incredible fidelity and way better than usual with NJ. I'll bet the Esquire pressing sounds great too.
Love this rekkid! Mine's a US Fontana mono. Only copy I've ever come across...
Fantastic LP. Not mega-rare in the UK but good copies (especially stereo) are hard to come by. Nice gate-fold astrological sleeve notes too !
Currently 'Modern Jazz Gallery - West Coast' (Japanese MCA Reissue of the Kapp 2LP). With Russ Garcia, Med Flory, Marty Paich etc.
Later on: Tubby Hayes Quartet 'Mexican Green' (UK Fontana stereo) and a check against the Japanese Fontana reissue !
Aha, the TT kiss of death !
I even spun a 45rpm Stiff Records single the other week (Albertos y Los Trios Paranoias) to do a recording for a colleague. Initially I had it up at full volume but not for long as the atrocious language and its effect on the neighbours could have got me an 'Anti Social Behavioural Order' from HM Government
Have a great BBQ !
