  1. Just giving this gem a listen at the present time: This is one Wheeler album that seems to escape the net of discussions.
  2. Wow - that brings back memories. Saw his group on a cross-Canada tour not too long after that CD came out, with Esposito and Gress. Sans Mr Sanders.
  3. It wouldn't be an Xmas holiday if you didn't go down with a nasty dose of cold and the sneezes right at the start of it. . That's what's happened to me again this year. This bug-infested land strikes again ! Feeling significantly better this morning, the Mosaics and vinyl are back in action and I'm gearing up for my mini-vacation. You know you are not feeling well when you are not interested in listening to much music.
  4. Blue Mitchell 'Out of the Blue' (Riverside DG stereo) Wonderful !
  5. That was the film that came to mind for me too Brownie when I saw this thread ! I seem to recall a scene with the protagonists running through a shopping centre with masks on holding machine guns (very Patty Hearst..) Very strange film about Wilhelm Reich's theories, as I recall, with an 'agitprop' theme to it. Lots of people sitting inside metal screened chambers and inducing orgasms in each other. When it was first broadcast here on UK TV back in the 1980s they stuck a little pink triangle on the screen - 'Viewer Discretion Advised'.
  6. Ahmad Jamal 'Live at the Montreal Jazz Festival 1985' (Atlantic 2LPs) Milt Jackson/Ray Charles 'Soul Brothers' (Atlantic 'That's Jazz' series)
  7. Uncanny. That's what I read too..
  8. Off the top of my head: Dave Liebman 'Lookout Farm' Julian Priester 'Love, Love' and 'Polarization' Trio Beyond 'Saudades' Kenny Wheeler 'Music For Large and Small Ensemble' (2LP) Azimuth 'Azimuth '85' Kenny Wheeler 'Deer Wan' Dave Holland 'Extensions' Bennie Maupin 'Jewel In The Lotus' John Surman 'The Amazing Adventures of Simon Simon' Keith Jarrett 'Hymn Spheres' (2LP)
  9. Last time I took part in one of these I was about 9 or 10 - 'Good King Wenceslas'. My parents still chuckle over it. The whole thing lasted about 10 minutes but to me it felt like an eternity (I had the damn opening lines..). They also messed up the seat arrangement on the 'stage set' so after about 5 minutes there was a frantic scramble for 4 chairs between 6 kids.
