  1. I want to get the dates mentioned for the Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers week at Fat Tuesday's jazz club in NYC back in 1981. Since I don't have a subscription I cannot view the article. https://www.nytimes.com/1981/02/13/arts/new-blakey-messengers.html
  2. Yes, that was the name of the label.
  3. I just remembered Horace Silver also started his own label.
  4. Today I was in a vinyl record shop and came across an album of Mary Lou Williams on "Mary Records." This was the label she formed when no other record label was recording her. I started to wonder what other jazz musicians started their own labels. Another that comes to mind is Willie Jones III. He has his own label. Are there any others?
  5. I just watched a Nova show on Leonardo Da Vinci. The problem with the Mona Lisa and why some are not impressed, it has 500 plus years of grime on it. The colors are all lost. Those in charge of the Louvre are afraid of attempting to clean it. Da Vinci made his own paints, completely different than any other artists of that time. So they don’t want to risk losing it. Through the use of a computer program, scientists were able to re-create what the painting looked like 500 years ago. It was so vibrant in color, unlike the way it looks now. So much is not visible. There is an entire garden in the lower quarter of the painting. Today that’s not visible. The program did mentioned that tourism and all the flashing cameras and cell phone is adding to the painting demise.
  6. wow. I will have to check this place out.

  10. Good read. https://www.whathifi.com/news/record-label-claims-amazon-is-selling-counterfeit-vinyl By What Hi-Fi? a day ago News With vinyl's resurgence, counterfeiting is an issue... (Image credit: Anton Hooijdonk from Pexels) A cautionary tale when scouring the internet for Black Friday vinyl deals or seeking out the perfect Christmas gift online, perhaps: Tommy Boy Records has claimed that Amazon is selling counterfeit vinyl – titles that the record label has never even had pressed to vinyl. Tommy Boy Records is best known for launching the careers of De La Soul, Queen Latifah, Afrika Bambaataa and more. As reported by DJ Mag, the company president, Rosie Lopez, made the claim at last week's Making Vinyl Conference in Los Angeles: "Counterfeit is another issue altogether. Somehow records that Tommy Boy hasn’t pressed in – ever – are on sale on Amazon, that’s a little concerning."...
  11. I've always like to hear what made someone learn the instrument he or she plays. When I had delusions of being a musician, I gravitated towards the guitar and piano. I took private lessons for about 15 years on both and even studied music in college. I heard Wes Montgomery and I want to play the guitar. He just amazed me. Piano was just something I added about two years after I started on the guitar.
  12. Happy Birthday Jimmy.
  13. Only in New York city would you find a roach smoking a cigarette.
  14. Wes Montgomery’s “Smokin’ at the Half Note.”
  15. I really like Eric Reed’s “Everybody Gets The Blues”.
  16. Is this for real? Cleaning vinyl records with glue. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TpL0HDIFOW4 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TpL0HDIFOW4
  17. The George Coleman Quartet. Smoke, NYC. George Coleman- ts Michael Weiss- p John Webber- b Joe Farnsworth- d.
  18. Back when vinyl was the only option and all my music was on vinyl, I use to keep all my albums in a paper sleeve made of cellophane/plastic. I would then put the record back into the cardboard album cover. Is it worth doing this? How are others protecting the collection? I also would use a soft felt brush to wipe the dust away before playing the record.
  19. It may behoove you to send an message to the person(s) that posted your material and let them know you would like this taken down, and explain to them in a congenial tone as to why. I know someone tried going through YouTube to have stuff removed and it didn't do much. When he personally asked the seeders in a polite manner to stop and remove the postings, all obliged.
  20. Happy Birthday, Terry.
