  1. Arnett Cobb's "Funky Butt", which album cover was the original? My Japanese import CD has the photo one.
  2. Glad she’s getting back to her old self. I had heart surgery when I was only 21 due to a virus and Rheumatic fever. Streptococcus made my heart like Swiss cheese. That was 36 years ago and I’m doing fine. Your wife will also be just fine.
  3. Yet another session in a Facebook discussion by two bones players, Buster Cooper and Thurman Green ,that I've never heard about before. Anyone here heard this before and if yes, what's your thoughts? Is it worth tracking down a copy?
  4. My bad, he is on the Onzy Matthews select.
  5. With many musicians having downtime because of venues closed do to Covid 19, some are interacting with fans on Facebook. Eric Reed started a listening discussion. I've never heard of Roosevelt Wardell. Looking through my collection, I do have him on the Curtis Amy Mosaic Select. I can't even find much information about him. Anyone else know more about this pianist?
  6. Beautiful statement.
  7. a facebook contact Cyrille Stephan passed away last Friday. We shared (since 2014) a lot about photography, she had many jazz contacts at home and abroad and shared her opinion about the Royal House, politics (wrote for the Republican Society) and social themes ... a beautiful one nice person went .. RIP Cyrille Stephan!
  8. From her Facebook page. Very sad news, I now read that Facebook contact Cyrille Stephan passed away. I never met her, didn't even know what she looked like. We became FB friends years ago because we were both fans of drummer Pierre Courbois. An FB buddy crazy about jazz, I don't have that many. Over the years, she also started to appreciate music styles that I am working on, which she initially did not like. Still special how you only know someone virtually and still feel connected through a common passion. I knew that her health was not good, but I did not expect this at all. Rest in peace Cyrille, it must be swingtime in heaven. Dank u!
  9. She had had pneumonia a number of times in the past she told me.
  10. Fuck. I only spoke with her on the 9th of March. She had Pneumonia and was going to the hospital. I'm really sad by this news.
  11. Singer and bassist Kenny Rogers has past last night at 82. I can’t seem to find any articles confirming this, but it was mentioned during a gig at Lincoln Center last night and a moment of silence for him, McCoy Tyner and Jimmy Heath was observed. He was on the charts a lot during the 70’s through the 90’s. Two tunes I recall that were played a lot, “She believes in me” and “The gambler.”
  12. Happy 85th George.
  13. Pat hasn’t been able to play since 2018 due to health issues. Go Fund me page. It doesn’t look good for another legend. https://www.gofundme.com/f/pat-martino-fund?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet
  14. RIP Mr. Tyner. Thanks all the music you gave the world. You'll be missed, but your music will remain and your memory won't be forgotten.
  15. The the George Coleman thread, it was mentioned that George is in the film Freejack. He plays a saxophone player. That's a stretch. Any other jazz musicians that have had cameos in movies. 'Round Midnight can be left off.
  16. I only recently discovered her. Nice guitarist. RIP.
  17. It is free for iPhones. If you hear a tune and don't know who it is, Shazam will tell you and tell you what album the tune is from. Pretty amazing.
  18. The valves are so far apart. How would someone play this?
  19. I was working at 52nd street at Broadway. I would go the the Tower Records up by Columbus Circle. They use to get the TOCJ Blue Note Japanese imports. I loved perusing through the rows of jazz CDs.
  20. Sorry for you loss.
  21. Did anyone watch the Miles Davis episode on American Masters? I enjoyed it a lot. If you didn't catch it, check your PBS station for when it will be airing.
  22. Looks like the film is finally getting released.
  23. Baby Dodds, Pops Foster, Louis Armstrong and Rudi Blesh, but who is the guitarist?
