  1. Who's on this date with Joe Henderson?
  2. This has happen to me 2 times. I both Art Blakey's Indestructible, and got Bud Powell's The Scene Changes. I also recently bought a Lionel Hampton CD's and not sure who it is, but there isn't one track with someone on vibes. At first I though it was Dexter Gordon, but now I'm not to sure.
  3. What exists of Elvin playing guitar on record? Was he good at playing the instrument?
  4. Mr. Kay left us first. 1995.
  5. I would like to see the 1968 Horace Silver Quintet do a reunion. I believe the 5 are all still with us. Horace Silver Charles Tolliver Bennie Maupin John B. Williams Billy Cobham Can you think of any other ensemble?
  6. I will be doing the same. It took his death for me to get around to buying his CD.
  7. This has been a horrible past 2 to 3 weeks for jazz. I can't wait till it is over. RIP Benny.
  8. Here's another photo. This was from July 30th 2004 at the Iridium in NYC.
  9. It seems as if we lost a lot of cats these past two weeks. It feels as if we will soon need a forum just for deaths.
  10. All I can say is, FUCK. Man, we lost another great one. I am truly depressed. RIP. I will really miss him. My all time favorite bass player. At least he's left us with so much music to enjoy.
  11. MAn, I laughed so hard. I loved this.
  12. What part on Long Island?
  13. When I saw the Heath Brothers, Jimmy said Percy was a Tuskegee Airmen in WWII. Jimmy said, "how many missions did you fly, 42?" Percy said, "I don't remember." Jimmy said "stop being modest".
  14. Wow. I hope he will be okay. Last spring I was walking in Manhattan and I spotted him walking along Broadway. I yelled "hey Percy" and gave a thumbs up he looked and smiled. No one else had a clue who he was. I guess that's good and bad.
  15. Lou was still playing pretty well for his age. May he play for another 20 years. He had this line-up: Ptah Williams on piano. Never heard of him, but man I wish I did. He could play. Play is an understatement. He broke the A sting an octave and a 6th above middle C. He was lighting fast, and clean. Every note was hit. He is from St. Louis. Teaching out of the university there. This was his first time in NYC. Hopefully it won’t be his last. I would go see him lead a band. Anyone here heard of him? Randy Johnson on Guitar John Webber on Bass Fukushi Tainaka on drums I believe this line-up was a last minute change. The billboard on the club entrance had Dr Smith listed, and so did the fliers at each table. Hopefully it was a scheduling issue and not something bad.
  16. WTF? I never knew this existed. Real real funny http://www.straightnochaser.org/Ballad%20o...o%20Baggins.mov
  17. I've seen him so many times over the years. This is the second time I'll see him without Dr Lonnie Smith. Still should be a great show.
  18. I think their Blue Note vault stuff has made it out there. I'm not sure about the other labels they were on in between their 2 times on Blue Note. Dan should know this better then anyone else.
  19. ...I didn't know Pat Martino drove one of those things! That is him. How did you know? The photo wasn't that great
  20. There's also this car. The Hoffmann
  21. We had a similar discussion about a year ago. Drugs in jazz
  22. What made this so special? It looks just like any other car from that time.
  23. I don't know if I would want to drive a car called the Peel P50 Plus, you will most likely be peeled from the car if you have a crash.
  24. I'm so glad WKCR was able to pay off their creditors. There's no other station doing what they do. The Mingus Memorial Broadcast was wonderful. They played stuff I never heard before. I'm glad I made a donation 2 weeks ago.
