  4. YEs, he did start playing in his mid 20's. He said that once to a friend and myself.
  5. For those who play music for a living, do you change the tunes you play during each set? If you do two or more sets a night, how many tunes do you repeat? Last week I went and saw Lou Donaldson at the Vanguard. I stayed for both sets. With the exception of one tune, everything else was the same. It was odd. I’m pretty sure he knows more then 9 tunes. It made me wonder why the lack of creativity on his part. He did have a new piano player he never played with before. Could it be the piano player didn't know the tunes? I don't think this was the reason. Maybe at 78 years old, Lou's ability limits what he plays.

  7. Back in 1981, I saw John Hendricks and Company. I don't remember the bass players name, I remember him telling me he started playing the bass at 28 years old, and he was 33 at that time.

  14. I wish I could have been there. They are one tight band. Play the blues with the best of them.
  15. He is home taking it easy as far as I know. Doesn't like to travel much anymore. He made good deal of money on publishing rights to his tunes.

  17. This has happen to me 2 times. I both Art Blakey's Indestructible, and got Bud Powell's The Scene Changes. I also recently bought a Lionel Hampton CD's and not sure who it is, but there isn't one track with someone on vibes. At first I though it was Dexter Gordon, but now I'm not to sure.
  18. What exists of Elvin playing guitar on record? Was he good at playing the instrument?
