  1. February there will be a reissue of this great Sonny Rollins session. It will contain unissued music from this album. On February 16, Craft Recordings will release a deluxe edition of one of the most iconic and enduring records in jazz. Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the recording session in 2017 and the 60th anniversary of the first stereo release of the album in 2018, Way Out West, alongside Saxophone Colossus, cements Sonny Rollins’ status as one of the top tenor saxophonists of all-time. This meticulously compiled package pays appropriate tribute to the importance of the landmark recording with an audiophile-quality pressing of the original album and a second LP of bonus material featuring rare and previously unreleased tracks from the legendary 3 A.M. session with bassist Ray Brown and drummer Shelly Manne. Both records are pressed at Quality Record Pressings (QRP) on 180-gram vinyl from lacquers cut by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. GRAMMY® Award-winning writer Neil Tesser contributes liner notes, which include excerpts from a recent interview he conducted with Rollins especially for this release. Rare photos by famed jazz photographer William Claxton round out the collection, which comes housed in a handsome, hinged box. More info below on the album and Rollins. Way Out West (Deluxe Edition) will also be available at streaming outlets, mastered for iTunes, and in Hi-Res digital (96/24 and 192/24) on street date. 2. Wow, so young. RIP, Kevin.
  3. RIP, John. Thanks for the music.
  4. Despite having volumes 1 through 4 from iTunes, I will be getting the Mosaic. This is great news indeed.
  5. RIP, Keely. "That Old Black Magic" remained on the top 40 charts for 18 weeks.
  6. My feeble guesses. I enjoyed this set of music. Now I will read the other responses. 1. Nice funky horn section. I don't no who this is. 2. The bass and the tenor work well together. I really like this track a whole lot. I don't know who it is. The guitarist plays well too. 3. The tune Moontrane by Woody Shaw. I am not sure who it is. Definitely not Woody. Any change the trumpeter is Arturo Sandoval? 4. “Dark Mood” The teaming up of Harold Land and Bobby Hutcherson. 5. The and plays the melody tight. I don't know who this is. 6. I’m lost on this. It sounds like something I've heard before, I do like it though. I don’t recognize the vocalist. 7. Just a guess, can it be Slide Hampton on the bones? I don't know, maybe it is not him, but he/she has the power in their playing that he had in the 50's and 60's. No real idea who this is. 8. I am guessing this is a drummer's session. I don't know who it is though. 9. Once again I don't know who this is. This track didn't do much for me. Sorry. 10. I don't know who is the guitar players. Sounds like there are two. 11. Don't know this either.
  7. Thanks for spotting that. I corrected it now.
  8. I think we discussed that he was the more recorded bass player, now it is official.
  9. Wynton and the orchestra visiting Clark Terry for his birthday. This was very moving.
