  1. Did someone say "speech" ? Well, then... am just all over that one
  2. Congrats, Dan! Welcome to the last real tax write-off in the country...
  3. Your secret's safe with me, BFrank...I won't tell a soul
  4. Wow Great article, BFrank. As I read it, I couldn't help wonder what it would have been like if Stevie Ray Vaughn had been there... [And don't think for a minute I've stopped being jealous that you got to see Hendrix in concert...sheesh.]

    Why I hate Miles

I just opened this thread up and sprayed the monitor with my drink...hate Miles Davis??? Wha-?
  6. Hm. I'd like to think everyone is allowed to voice their own opinion...irrespective of how we believe individually. Call me spoiled...
  7. It doesn't matter what you have OR what you listen to as long as you enjoy it! I definately enjoy listening to my favorite music on a quality system as opposed to the crappy boombox in my bathroom, there is a difference. Fair enough.
  8. A euphamism to make a point, my friend. Nothing else.
  9. I've Got You Under My Skin Cole Porter I've got you under my skin. I've got you deep in the heart of me. So deep in my heart that you're really a part of me. I've got you under my skin. I'd tried so not to give in. I said to myself: this affair never will go so well. But why should I try to resist when, baby, I know so well I've got you under my skin? I'd sacrifice anything come what might For the sake of havin' you near In spite of a warnin' voice that comes in the night And repeats, repeats in my ear: Don't you know, little fool, you never can win? Use your mentality, wake up to reality. But each time that I do just the thought of you Makes me stop before I begin 'Cause I've got you under my skin. (Musical interlude) I would sacrifice anything come what might For the sake of havin' you near In spite of the warning voice that comes in the night And repeats - how it yells in my ear: Don't you know, little fool, you never can win? Why not use your mentality - step up, wake up to reality? But each time I do just the thought of you Makes me stop just before I begin 'Cause I've got you under my skin. Yes, I've got you under my skin.
  10. Based upon how much grief...? TBH, if PD wants to go...then go. If DEEP won't cooperate...then go. My concern is with why this is an issue and why people decide to go. [Had some experience in this area on Jazz Corner]
  11. OK. My issue is with how you conduct yourself on a BBS. DEEP has issues. PD, aparently, has issues. So do I. So do you. Who do we vote off the Jazz "island" then?
  12. Whoa. You bought a Rock CD? Can the Blues be far behind...?
  13. I agree. There is a World Wide Web out there for a very good reason. Ya do watcha gotta do.
  14. I play [played] trumpet. My guys? Oscar Peterson or Herbie Hancock- Piano Ray Brown or Ron Carter- Bass Steve Khan, Joe Pass or Mike Stern- Guitar Ed Thigpen, Philly Joe Jones, Jack DeJohnette, Peter Erskine or Dan D'Imperio- Drums JJ Johnson, Bob Brookmeyer or Steve Turre - T-bone Jackie McClean or Cannonball Adderley- Alto Wayne Shorter or Harold Land- Tenor Miles Davis or Lee Morgan- Trumpet [you know...on the days my chops weren't up to it ]
  15. Personally, I frequent Streetlight Records in San Francisco and buy used CDs exclusively when I'm there. My feeling is, don't charge $18-20 bucks a CD and I'll buy new. Guilt free and without remorse.
  16. I feel your pain. My wife calls Jazz that "bweep-bop" music. She wonders aloud why I won't play that smoothie stuff, sighs, then walks out of the room.
  17. You must have the patience of Job. I would run stark raving mad out of the room...TWO and 1/2 hours??? ohmigod
  18. I got squat. Figures.
  19. Never bought an 8-track. Always found them to be crap, basically. They would change tracks in the middle of a song or need to be bumped to make them play. One guy I knew had to wedge a piece of folded paper between the tape and the opening of the player to make it work [kinda like how you might level a table by putting a wedge of paper under the bent leg] and I figured if you need to work that hard, they weren't worth the plastic the tape is housed in. I instead bought cassette tapes, LPs and 45s.
  20. Hey, Uli...JC junky here, too.
  21. Excepting that tired old chestnut My Funny Valentine [ugh], COOKIN' is my favorite of the three.
  22. TBH...Dan D'Imperio is quite possibly one of the most knowledgable Jazz musicians I have ever come in contact with on this or any other BBS. There are exceptions, of course, but when he's not tweaking sensiblities, he can be a real font of Jazz knowledge. My two cents...
  23. Good choice, BFrank My three? If Six Was Nine Voodoo Chile Stone Free TimMc
  24. Mosaic set? Um...sure. Did I mention I am a Newbie here..? Set's in the mail...don't wait up.
  25. Thanks, Guys. I think I'll fit in here just fine
