  3. Just came in the mail yesterday. Haven't watched/listened yet.
  4. Sony bought Mainstream because it released the first Big Brother and the Holding Company album, and Columbia wanted to add it to their Janis properties. They pretty much ignored the catalog except for repackaging some Sarah Vaughan & Carmen McRae albums (both were at their peak during those years). It appears that some titles have been released through the Japanese P-Vine label. I love Charles McPherson's Today's Man, with great Ernie Wilkins charts. IIRC, Mainstream had a "Time Series" for rereleases of Time material.

  6. Melons in NY generally suck. Except at farmers markets very little produce is local. Everything comes from different places depending on time of year.

  18. http://www.amazon.com/Live-at-Montreux-Highlights-1973-1991/dp/B004Z0P68W I think I'll order this. I'm not enough of a fan of the post-return Miles to spring for the complete set. I'd buy the 1973 if it were available individually.

  20. Too bad Miles was so weak at the final concert (he was in much better form shortly thereafter at La Villette). I was in Milan at that time and I had considered going to Montreux (the Bulgarian Women's Chorus shared the bill--remember them?). Anyway, when I saw the video, where Roney had to fill in so much for Miles, I wasn't so disappointed.
  21. Ah, I see Alan already mentioned Amsterdam.
  22. I just checked. I do have a Rotterdam 1967, recorded 2 days after Antwerp. You can find it on blogs and torrents I'm sure. But looking at my shelf it turns out it was a Holland date from the 1960 tour you gave me a burn of.
  23. I saw the Octet once, I'm pretty sure with Harold Vick as 2nd tenor at an outdoor concert in midtown Manhattan, not sure when. But I'm pretty sure it was Vick and not Junior Cook. Also pretty sure it was the only time I saw Strozier.
