  1. Is that the order of original release? It looks like that's the M.O. Infinity is another one I can live without ever hearing again.
  2. I don't know, but that's a pretty amazing quartet of posthumous releases, eh?
  3. The proposal about the Trane rhythm section made me think of just how different the two saxophonists are/were temperamentally. I might even say that Ornette is Dionysian to Trane's Apollonian. I love Trane, but I'd never describe him as playful the way I would of Ornette. Moffett and Blackwell were IMO perfect for Ornette, and I don't think either would have fit so well with Trane. FWIW, I never thought the Coltrane/Cherry meeting on Atlantic worked very well.
  4. Here's a really stupid promo video:
  5. Billy Childs Thomas Kyd Dave "Baby" Cortez
  6. The original Selflessness LP had one side with late material (was it just the title tune?) and one side with My Favorite Things and I Want to Talk About You from Newport 1963. Selflessness the track was on Major Works and the Newport material of course is on Newport 1963. It's sort of odd to revert to the original LP configuration, which was an odd mix to start with. Personally, I'll be happy if I never hear Om or Cosmic Music again.
  7. Antwerp was released quite a while ago as "His Greatest Concert Ever" on Jazzman. I think that was the first 2nd quartet boot that I ever saw on CD. Paris 11/06 was also issued as No Blues on JMY. I don't think that I have ever seen the Copenhagen concert on a boot, however. I have both of those, plus the two videos. Is there a Rotterdam too, or is that 1969 (you may have given me a copy)? What I really love about that tour is how different the concerts are. For instance, Paris is exploratory but Antwerp is much more intense. I think Karlsruhe is a better performance than Stockholm. By the way, there was a Japanese Sony release of one of the 1969 Juan Les Pins concerts and they were supposed to release another, but I never saw it. Anybody know about this?

    Sly Stone

My new favorite Sly album is The Woodstock Experience, which is actually one disc of his complete Woodstock performance (amazing energy) and one with the Stand album, probably the best studio album.
  10. Ornette Coleman Jayne Cortez Denardo Coleman
  11. Freddie Slack Humphrey Clinker Lesley Ash Ashley Montague Juliet Capulet Gino Cappelletti
  12. Stella Adler Luther Adler Luther Ronzoni Vandross (I recently learned his middle name, so I figured I'd include it)
  13. Marco Rubio Ruby Begonia Hyacinth Bucket
  14. Jane Russell Lady Booby Boo Frazier Barbara "Boo Boo" Monk Boo Boo Bear Buhaina
  15. John Gotti, the Teflon Don Pan Pnin Vladimir Nabokov Humbert Humbert Hubert Horatio Humphrey
  16. Crazy Eddie Crazy Guggenheim Mr. Dunahy
  17. The Anita O'Day in series 4 is fabulous, and the Blakey/Hubbard is a bit uneven but generally good. I agree with Larry on the Farmer--a surprise highlight for me--while I do like Farmer, he has never been prominent in my listening or collection, but this DVD is really great.
  18. Series 5 finally announced. Most artists are repeats, but who's complaining? July 26, 2011- Series 5 Coming Soon! Hello friends, Reelin' In The Years Productions and Mosaic Records are pleased to announce the release of the 5th installment of the celebrated Jazz Icons® series. Details will be announced in the coming weeks but here are the six titles: John Coltrane- Live In France 1965 Thelonious Monk- Live In France 1969 Freddie Hubbard- Live In France 1973 Johnny Griffin- Live In France 1971 Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers- Live In France 1959 Rahsaan Roland Kirk- Live In France 1972 They're all from France, so it looks like they're getting the whole bunch from ORTF this time. I'm looking forward to the Coltrane Antibes performance in hopefully better quality--He did two shows there, and AFAIK only the show without A Love Supreme has been available among collectors. It would be great if there's also film of the Love Supreme concert. It looks like Mosaic has replaced Naxos as their new partner. I'm guessing the Kirk is from the same tour as The One Man Twins at Montreux. This will be their third Blakey, I'm guessing it's the one that was released as a boot by Impro-Jazz.

    Prez is here!

I guess Granz is the common thread, but it's an odd mix of tracks from multiple sources and times. I have the Duke item on this DVD: http://www.jazzloft.com/p-47006-at-the-cote-dazur-with-ella-fitzgerald-joan-mirothe-last-jam-session.aspx
  24. Sheila Jordan Charles Sheeler Egon Schiele
