  1. Damn...the Bill Evans Riverside box for 55 bucks...along with 29 others @ 2.98 a pop. No more music for a while!!! What a sale (*blows smoke away from wallet*)
  2. PM sent on the Tal Farlow and Teddy Wilson...
  3. My absolute favorite thing about this record. It's a wonder they made it to the end of the song--they were both laughing! Rarely is joy so palpable in an audio recording! I highly recommend this one.
  4. Being an admitted Art Farmer newbie, I recently picked this record up from Conn 5000 (thanks, Paul!). I absolutely love the session, and the charts are in ways unmistakeably have Oliver Nelson's touch, but after a couple of listens, I had a nagging thought in the back of my mind..."what does this remind me of?" Zzzzzzap! Miles Ahead, in a big way. To the extent that, to my ears, it could have been a pre- or sequel. Does anyone else hear this? Which came first, Gil's or Oliver's charting style? And...is this a pathetically novice question to ask? I guess I'm just curious about the extent to which these guys were listening to each other's stuff. I just can't get over how "Miles-like" Farmer's tone/runs/solos are on this, and how "Gil-like" Nelson's charts are...but...for those of you who've made studies of these, should it really be the other way around?
  5. Hey guys! Thanks a lot! I'm 35 today, so I guess at midnight I officially enter my "late" thirties. I spent yesterday in Portland where it was HOT (90 degrees--well, hot for the Pacific Northwest), driving down in the morning in the jeep with the top down. Came back to Seattle this morning (quick trip!) and have further festivities planned, some including my dog, some not. Nice to log on and see this message on top! Thanks again!
  6. Doesn't work. I'll try that--I'm not a fan of the new system either.
  7. PM sent re: Meet the Jazztet Up & Down Movin' & Groovin Listen to Art Farmer and the Orchestra Perception Here and Now Ouch!
  8. One word: Ceora. Cornbread is a masterful session.
  9. PM sent! (Paul--you freaked me out, seeing your name as the last responder--you always ace me out on the s__t I want to buy! Thanks for the endorsement--just bought JC live at the lighthouse '64, and completely digging it.)
  10. Thanks for the heads-up, Lon! Got it on hold at Borders right now!
  11. Just arrived on my desk! Disc one in and playing... Whoa. I'm digging it. This is unbelievably intense, visceral music--I can't imagine being present at the sessions--and that's the "view" from my computer speakers. I'm going to crank this up at home tonight! I can't believe I was eight box sets away from missing out on this. Thanks for putting this out, Chuck!
  12. Holy Shit! Finally! Oddly, if you look at GG's discography at All Music, it shows this as a 2006 release - even has a catalog number. Bingo! http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...D=5092246&BAB=L
  13. Is Delirious not available on DVD? I just tried to add it to my Netflix queue, but it wasn't a "choice". I added Raw, though!
  14. Hysterical. Was that from Raw?
  15. I have ALWAYS wondered about this! I assume, Chuck, you're talking about when you hear the opening bar or phrase of a track faintly just before the actual track starts. Where _does_ it come from?
  16. Anyone know what a baseball autographed by Casey Stengel would be worth?
  17. Great news, Phil--can't wait, I loved Convergence Zone!
  18. Si, por favor!
  19. This is, literally, four blocks from where I live, and five blocks from where I work. Gotta open my eyes!!!
  20. I'm trying to figure out how much Henry Moore sculpture has been installed publicly in the Pacific Northwest. Has anyone ever found a resource for this sort of thing? I've tried the Henry Moore Foundation--you'd think they would keep a list--but nada. Leads appreciated!
  21. Someone called?
  22. That was my first thought on reading the news.
