  1. Well, I really like track 12, "I cover the Waterfront". At this point, my curiosity has gotten the better of me, and I've read the other comments...interesting that nobody seems to have pinned this down. Like the Bjork idea, but I don't know if it really sounds like here. The chart and piano solo sounds like Rene Rosnes (who I know you like, Daniel!)--but allmusic came up empty on that account.
  2. Exactly!!! Duke's got to make an appearance on that disc somewhere!
  3. I have the BN LP and checked. It IS the fifth track! Damn!!! Just when I thought I was really on to something...for the first time in this series of tests!!!
  4. Are we sure track 5 is the fifth cut on this album? Isn't it the third cut on this album? Everyone seems to be recognizing the trumpet soloist, though, so I could be off base--just thought it sounded like there were more players. (edited to make links work)
  5. Happy Birthday, Bertrand!!!
  6. Y'all reminded me that I've been wanting to purchase a copy of All Music from Mr. Nessa. So the order goes off today! Not sure quite what to expect--sad to admit, I've never heard any of Marsh's music, not that I'm aware of, anyway. I'll post some impressions when it arrives!
  7. I agree with Excel and think this will be a great resource. Thanks in advance, Mike!
  8. Nice sentiment, Chuck. Couldn't agree more; this board is such a testament to your statement. Where else can you get, in ten minutes: 1) Recommendation for the best recording of the Bartok string quartets; 2) Vehement discussion about what occurred in recordings that were never released (trainwreck); 3) Fervent analysis of the sonic difference between the JRVG, TOCJ, RVG and McM versions of Blue Train; and 4) Wrap it all up by purchasing a copy of All Music from the man who recorded the goddamn thing (I know, I need to send you some $$$ to get this, Chuck).
  9. KILLER BFT, Daniel. Love it! Can't wait to post some impressions! Thanks for sending it over here! PJ
  10. Be well, Jeff--we'll all miss you. Stop by when the four winds blow you safely home. All the best...
  11. Uhhh...strike that Oliver Nelson. Try Duke Pearson! Sorry, Duke!!! WHAT THE HELL IS TRACK 13??? I love it. I have so many of these in my collection...just can't put my finger on them. Argh!
  12. Great, great, GREAT blindfold test, Dan!!! Thanks so much for putting this together--I've been digging the hell out of it all day...and it shouldn't surprise me, based on past confluences of ours of musical enjoyment. I will have to do some hard listening to this--won't be hard--but I think I'm already hearing Quincy Jones, Oliver Nelson, Herbie, and...man, so much great stuff...so much lush sound. I'm lovin' it!!! Thanks Dan!
  13. Of course, what I'd like to do is snap my fingers and be THERE...
  14. I answered "k".
  15. Welcome to home ownership, Dan!
  16. I'll be heading to Los Angeles to char some animal flesh, juice heavily and lay low. Does anyone know what's happening in L.A. this weekend?
  17. I voted "all of the above."
  18. Hey, Soulstation1--I just realized I've been waiting a year for this!!! Let's have it!
  19. Shit, I just remembered...I'm going to be in L.A. this weekend! Any recommendations for ribs in L.A.?
  20. Only one place for me in Philly for ribs: Of course, then I need to go somewhere else for sides: I'll definitely hook up some ribs this weekend...
  21. Those look like piano-playin' hands if I ever say them. Get her in front of an instrument QUICK!!!
  22. Well, if you're waiting for Dedication I'm sure it will come out soon. How do I know this? Well, my recently having bought Live Under the Sky and The Piano as imports continued the trend of guaranteeing that they will be released domestically, cheaper and with extra tracks!!!
  23. That happens to me every time I go to the dentist! I guess they think it enhances a majority of the population's ability to relax, but it just gives me agitas. I find myself hoping for Sanborn or the Yellowjackets...
  24. Happy happy! Have a great birthday, Jim! Thanks for everything you do around here!
  25. Clem--you're absolutely right re the Stones early records--people should definitely hear them in mono if they haven't already. Such sound...
