  1. Definitely worthwhile getting all of the previous and subsequent volumes IMO. One of the greatest Ellington bands, great selection of Ellingtonia/songs and good sound quality. Even the announcements and bond promos make for interesting listening.
  2. "Indigos" perhaps? Not the players but the material/songs covered. I'll definitely get this lot when I get through the dozen and a half of unopened Duke discs. Wonder when Columbia'll reissue "Cosmic Scene: Duke Ellington's Spacemen", that'll be a good one.
  3. In addition to the Clifforb Brown Emarcy, Billie Holiday Columbia, Rollins Prestige, Pres Verve, add: Louis Armstrong - Hot 5s and 7s (JSP & Columbia) Complete JATP 1944 - 49 Duke Ellington - Travelogue Edition Charlie Christian - Genius of Electric Guitar Bud Powell - Complete Verve Eric Dolphy - Complete Prestige And I'd combine the 5 volumes of the Bix Restored series and consider them one big box set.
  4. Not sure if this has been discussed elsewhere, but Jazzmatazz lists these as potential new Mosaic releases:
  5. From the other side of the pond Petronas Twin Towers. Houses a large shopping complex, office buildings, art gallery and a concert hall (most of the major jazz concerts are held here). Sultan Abdul Samad building - Designed by a British architect 1890s. This must have been taken on a quiet Sunday evening cause the roads are jam packed on working days.
  6. Some copy protected RVGs but since they were selling cheap... Freddie Hubbard - Breaking Point Art Blakey - Buhaina's Delight Dexter Gordan - Dexter Calling Meet Betty Carter & Ray Bryant
  7. Eagerly awaiting the balance of 14 volumes (after 10).
  8. A double dose of JATP and likely the Mosaic is in store for this weekend. RIP
  9. Mosaic should emboss the numbering of the first and last 25 sets in gold ink so as to make them highly desirable to 'collectors'.
  10. I once bought stacks of discs I knew I wouldn't have the time to listen to for up to 1 year, for fear of the internet store (my main source of CDs) going bust. It did, but I just shifted to another net store and still have that fear. So the vicious cycle continues. And then there's Mosaic...
  11. Does anyone own the "Fats Waller Portrait" box sets by the Documents label? How's the sound quality, are the selections close to complete? Each box has 10CDs and a 40 page booklet apparently. Seems like a decent deal at under $50.
  12. You need to build a special cabinet(s) for your Mosaics, which will definitely double and triple the number you have now.
  13. I keep them Mosaic invoices and receipts in an exclusive and properly labelled file to ensure they are within easy reach (in case I want to admire them once in a while -_- ). All invoice and receipts are kept in pristine/mint condition. I'd never place them in the box cause that would entail dirtying the box with fingerprints.
  14. If you're getting the Brunswick and Okeh Ellington, might as well pick up the 2 Small Groups volumes. In fact, I'd get these first before the Okeh. Vol.2 is what got me hooked on the Duke's music.
  15. Based on 2-3 songs, he appears to be a pop/standards singer. His rendition of Stevie Wonder's For Once in My Life is being played to death (every few hours) on my local Lite & Easy channel.
  16. Thanks for the info. FrancoisD. On a side note, I wonder if Neatwork will ever come out with the alternate takes of the Artie Shaw recordings. Would be good to have those to complement the Classics series.
  17. Artie Shaw '46 to '50 is out already? Gotta get that one.
  18. Partial sets have the XXXX too
  19. Used CD stores in my area buy second hands for at most 10-15% of the price of a new CD and resell em at a 300-400% profit.
  20. Ditto. Seems less comprehensive now - and always times out too when doing a search. Well, at least it's still free.
  21. Grachan Moncur III discs 1-3, again
  22. Mongo Santamaria - Watermelon Man Easily one of my worst buys from the last 4-5 years. The first 12 tracks consist of what to me are mainly commercial tunes infused with Latin rhythms which become boring after a few listens. Granted Watermelon Man is a funky boogaloo worth its weight in salt but that's it. The saving grace for this CD is Mongo's percussion works and the 'bonus' 6 live titles which include his composition, Afro Blue.
  23. Their webpages load up much faster than before.
