  1. This is streaming here: https://immub.org/album/songbook-instrumental-antonio-carlos-jobim Seems rather "smooth Jazz" to my ears. Not bad at all, but certainly not something I would play too often or pay big bucks to acquire. This is selling for over $200 on Amazon.
  2. But the story on the National Jazz Museum of Harlem webpage is clear, "Mrs. Hilma Carter has made a gift of this music to the National Jazz Museum in Harlem to support their mission of preserving, promoting, and presenting jazz. It is her wish that the music be made available free of charge, and the museum is placing it across the world’s most popular streaming services." So why $8.99 & who is getting that $8.99? And before I am asked, I get why a label has to charge for physical product, but as noted, Amazon is selling a download. This would seem to fit closely with "streaming". The playing of a stream uses no more data than a download - probably less in fact.
  3. Darwin at work.
  4. All this Paolo Fresu talk got me to pull up this one next. Cosmo Intini Jazz Set - My Favorite Roots (Timeless). Bartz plays well here too. All in all, this turned out to be one of those, "Hmm... the band looks interesting... I wonder what this is" that led to, "Yeah, this was a good pick up". About the only negative here is that I am not a fan of the bass sound. It's almost annoying at times. Discogs says it was recorded in 1990, but it sounds more like a 1980 bass sound.
  5. My absolute favorite Romano CD with Fresu on it is "Canzoni" (Enja). Romano leads the quartet through a set of Italian ballads, with Fresu playing all of them with a Harmon mute. Beautiful playing by all and a CD that I often spin at while eating dinner. I thought I had this one in the racks but I'm not finding it on my work PC's hard drive so I either forgot to rip this one or I didn't get it after all.
  6. Paolo Fresu - Incantamento (Plays the music of Tino Tracanna) (Blue Note Italy). Part of a 5 CD series of sessions Fresu did with his quintet with each disc featuring original compositions from each member of the band. This is Tino Tracanna's disc. This is great jazz. All 5 of these CDs are well worth hearing.
  7. Sadly, it's being reported that Mick has died. I assume this fundraiser will now go to help his wife pay those medical bills. RIP Mick and thanks for the music.
  8. Blue Note finally got around to re-pressing "Introducing Kenny Burrell". This is an amazing-sounding record. If you are a fan of the music and you have a turntable, you should pick up a copy of this Tone Poet LP. The music has never sounded better.
  9. I often wonder if there is a farmer with a shotgun not far from that barn door.
  10. I see you're bringing a trio to Scullers in Boston on February 4th. Should be a good time, although I was looking forward to seeing Cory Weeds for the first time. He doesn't seem to travel far from his home base.
  11. I just came across a review of this and it sounds like something I might like. It seems to be only available as part of a large box or an old French CD. Is this highly regarded here? How did Columbia forget about it?
  12. At my age, I've stopped buying wines that need a lot of time in the cellar. I've stocked up on a bunch of 2018 Californian Cabs that I'll sit on for the next 10 years or so, but after those are all gone, I'll probably switch to buying wines that are ready to drink on release. Having said this, I am trying to get my hands on a 6-pack of the 2019 Schrader Double Diamond Cabernet, which was just named "Wine of the Year" by the Wine Spectator.
  13. 2018 Caravan Red made by Darioush. It was pretty good. I remember it being better at the tasting when I bought it.
  14. Bob Berg - New Birth (Xanadu). Berg & Tom Harrell in the front line and a rhythm section of Cedar Walton, Mike Richmond, Al Foster & Sam Figueroa. It's a pretty decent date - Berg's first as a leader.
  15. Damn... I might have to pick that one up. It's not like I have a mono US LP laying around to hold me over.
  16. I already have most of the original Blue Note XRCDs, including a few that I already owned as TOCJ CDs, breaking my own rules. I agree that they sound really good.
  17. Mick with his good friend, 19-year old Pat Metheny playing in Gary Burton's band at the Molde Jazz Festival of 1974. Mick solos at 8:45 & 18:58. I was lucky to see Mick many times due to his playing around Boston while working at Berklee. And Roger - thanks for starting this thread. I meant to yesterday but life intervened and I forgot.
  18. The word on the street is that the last 5 Blue Note XRCDs are going to start shipping soon. I can't believe that it took them this long to get them out, but there it is. Now the big question... do I buy any of them? Grant Green - Talkin' About! Herbie Hancock - Takin' Off Stanley Turrentine - That's Where It's At Stanley Turrentine - Look Out! Lou Donaldson - Lou Takes Off
  19. Oh - I thought you were talking about Kevin there. Now that makes more sense. Wait... Don is 70?!?
  20. The show is tonight and there are still quite a few tickets. Now I'm seeing that the price has dropped on those remaining seats to $95. I thought that they were $150/ticket initially but when I went the other day, they were $100. I've never seen a club use variable ticket pricing like this before. Are other clubs doing this now? I've seen clubs offer discounted tickets on the day of the show as well as discounted tickets to Berklee students, but never had one use a sliding scale based on sales. I imagine those that paid $150/ticket aren't thrilled.
  21. In that video above, you said you were the same age? The 72 number was a Google thing. Oh surprise... they were wrong.
  22. I searched the forums for any threads on Mick Goodrick and this is probably the best place to put this... well, I don't know if this right place to put this, or if I should even post it here on the forums at all but here goes... Mick Goodrick is very ill and is in a tough spot financially. He has Parkinson's Disease and it has progressed to the point where his mobility is very limited. He is now requiring constant professional care, medical equipment and medicines that are outside of his existing insurance coverage. He (or someone close to him) has started a Go Fund Me page to raise money to help with these medical bills. I won't post the link in case someone is worried that it might not be real, so if you are interested, go to www.gofundme.com and search for Mick Goodrick.
  23. Lloyd's coming to Portsmouth, NH tomorrow and I'm skipping it. First off, he's bringing his trio and I'm not digging his latest trio work but the clincher is that it's $100/ticket. I don't know how this new club is going to make it if they keep charging prices like this. The show tomorrow night isn't sold out yet and I think the ticket price is the main reason. Even though this club is only ~20 minutes from my house, I've skipped quite a few shows because of their high ticket prices. I guess I'll still be making the trip to Boston for most shows.
  24. The really nice one... was that 1999? Had such great pictures, I had several of them signed.
  25. I've seen Bobby Watson live many times. Too many to count. You should definitely catch him if he comes through your area.
