  7. Yes. Like a sequel to the Charles Peterson book and also to Milt Hinton's books. Perhaps a book will emerge from these photos. Thanks so much for posting the link, Marcel!

  10. Baseball has always been more statistically oriented than other major U.S. sports. Football has moved somewhat to that orientation, but nowhere to the degree that baseball has been and is today. So it's no surprise that there seem to be new formulations constantly appearing. For myself, I'd rather watch the games and not get caught up in numbers - especially numbers which are supposed to predict performances. I'll leave that to the geniuses who run the teams. For me, the quirks of humanity are always more interesting than numbers.
  11. 100 wins in a row. As a friend of mine (who knows basketball and who I didn't think had any interest in the women's game) said to me last year - "They play the game the way it should be played".

  17. Low 20's here - lower with the wind chill, plus about 10" of snow so far and still coming down. I can't complain, since this is the most snow we've had all winter, plus I can just stay home. It used to be that I had to go into work no matter what the weather was, so retirement has its perks, even if it means that I'm old.
  18. A long life, well played. R.I.P., Mr. Asmussen.
  19. A friend sent me this email. I don't know if it's true but, even if it's not, there's sometimes truth to be found in the apocryphal (plus, it's a funny story): someone posted this online, about Brian Wilson's autobiography:
  20. New York Times obituary: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/07/arts/irwin-corey-comedian-and-foremost-authority-dies-at-102.html He was one of those performers who can be said to have been unique. I was lucky enough to meet him in passing after a concert several years ago. Thanks for the laughs and everything else you gave me over the years, Professor. I'll miss you.
  21. It's not easy for small businesses to stay in business these days (probably wasn't at any time). I have a good friend who runs a book store that his father opened 71 years ago. It's still going and my friend has my thanks and admiration for that.
