Is it possible that Max Roach held the rights to this, and now his estate does?

The first move they should make is to send A-Rod, Sabathia, and Teixeira home, unless they can get something for them. They have to pay them, but they don't have to play them. Teixeira - Mr. .190 - "I'm a pull hitter and I'm not going to change" - grounded out to second his last time up yesterday and as a pinch hitter in the 9th today. If he had grounded to the left side, which was wide open, he'd have had a hit both times. At least his contract is over after this season; A-Rod - Mr. .210 - struck out four times yesterday, did the same as a pinch hitter in the 9th today. Pay him off for the rest of this year and next year and send him home; Sabathia - another year left on his contract. Make him the batting practice pitcher, and if that doesn't humiliate him enough to make him retire, just pay him off and send him home. They could make A-Rod warm up relief pitchers in the bullpen, but he has no shame, so he'd probably do it just to collect his salary. Clear out the useless garbage. -

If they want to do a complete rebuild, the first move they should make is firing Cashman. -

Stupid move by the Yankees. Miller is under contract for two more years and he's proven himself to be a very effective closer. Minor leaguers are a shot in the dark. -

Atco was a label set up for Herb Abramson, one of the founders of Atlantic, who was in the army from 1953 to 1955. When he returned, he was given the reins at Atco, but his tastes were in touch with an older, more hard core r&b and blues style of music. Abramson signed Bobby Darin to the label, but didn't have any success producing him, probably because he wasn't in touch with pop tastes. He ended up selling his interest in Atco to his ex-wife, became an independent producer. and opened a recording studio. In the 60's, he produced Tommy Tucker's hit "High Heeled Sneakers", and later produced a good album by Louisiana Red that, interestingly, was released on Atco.

Keep spinning 'em, Jeff. I can't hear what you're playing, except in my imagination, but that works out pretty well.

I like that Insect Trust record a lot. As for Christgau's review, I always found his writing more clever and smarmy than anything else.

Why are the reputations of US composers so pianissimo?
paul secor replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Classical Discussion
It actually would have been a day trip for me, but I had no knowledge of Elliott Carter's music in 2008. I get David's point, though - I should get out to hear more live music. -

I guess we're on the same page. I just didn't pick up on your sarcasm. Thanks again for the links. -

I like this one too. Sometimes I like music I can sing along with - sometimes not - probably more often not. Thanks for posting both Carter pieces, even if the results might not have exactly followed your intent. Reading what you posted while I was posting this, I guess I misread your intent. -

I enjoyed listening to this. Guess you didn't. I'm sure I'd enjoy listening to it more live in a concert hall, rather than at home where there are distractions. -
I don't know about the intonation of Ellington's sax section. I don't have perfect pitch and only hear what I hear. I do know that I love to listen to Duke's sax section and that there are probably a lot of bands with "perfection" intonation (whatever that might be) that I wouldn't want want to listen to for thirty seconds. Rob McConnell's bands might be some of those. I'll stick with what works for me.

We got some rain this morning which has broken some of the heat, and there's supposed to be rain off and on over the next few days. We can use it.

Duke Jordan's Flight to Jordan is a very good one. I picked it up on a recommendation from Larry Kart in an earlier thread. Here's the thread: Thanks for turning me on to that one, Larry.

"George Frazier record, on Riverside (?)" - Never heard of that one. Do you mean George Crater (Ed Sherman)? He wrote some amusing columns (at least I remember them as amusing) for Down Beat in the early 60's and did a record for Riverside where he comes off as a sort of minor league Lenny Bruce doing jazz based humor. Is this the record you're talking about?:
