  1. NY Times Obituary He was my favorite film critic and his writings helped introduce me to the world of film. Thanks for everything, Mr. Sarris.
  2. Listened to one of the clips. I don't have the time left to waste it on stuff like this. Others obviously have different opinions.
  3. Thanks for posting that, Jim. Thoughtful article.
  4. Mingus in Europe Volume II (Enja) There's an extra cut on the cd of this album and I keep wondering if I should pick up the cd for one track. I know it's Mingus and Dolphy and that should be enough to warrant it, but...
  5. Pete Maravich J. Press Guitar Crusher
  6. Bye Bye Balboni Dr. Strangeglove Joe Bauman
  7. MF Mort Fega Jazzbo Collins
  8. Harvey's passed away and his wife probably wants to get rid of all those cds laying around. It will happen to all of us sooner or later. When I'm gone, Joan will probably toss mine in a dumpster.
  9. Dan Aykroyd Jane Curtin Laraine Newman
  10. Agreed. And in the end, what is this about? A thread got locked because it was a duplicate. So what?
  11. Glad someone has started this up again. Now you just have to write something about the record and get the conversation going.
  12. The bottom line is that many blues musicians recorded r&b and soul tunes and played them on their gigs because the wider black audience had lost interest in blues, and the musicians had to play what their audiences wanted to hear or they were out of work. Later, when young white audiences picked up on the blues, many blues musicians' playing became rock influenced and many recorded with rock musicians. Musicians, in general, tend to go where the money is.
  13. I consider it a privilege to be able to post on Organissimo. I haven't had it happen, but if a thread I started was closed by a moderator and I didn't understand why, I would take the time to send a PM and find out why before I went public with a complaint.
  14. Professor Longhair Larry Bird Mark Fidrych
  15. I watched that game. As I remember, Wilt took himeself out with an injury in the 4th quarter. He never returned. Wilt's story was that he wanted to go back in but Laker coach Butch van Breda Kolff kept him on the bench. In any event, the Celtics won and Wilt didn't get his second championship ring until 1972. I've always been a Laker fan, but I probably respected Bill Russell more than any other player, so seeing him go out as a winner in his final season put some salve on the Lakers' loss.
  16. Sent a contribution today.
  17. Tim Hardin Steely Dan Iron Mike Tyson
  18. Ben Webster was another.
  19. Idea taken from recent posts on the Gene Quill thread - with full credit given to flat5. I'm copying my comment from that thread. Hope that others will take things to other places. Could prove to be interesting. Roscoe Mitchell and Cecil Taylor are two musicians whose music opened up in a good way as they got older. I love their early playing, but love their later playing even more.
  20. Some good news. Let us hope that he has friends and a support system who will help him get to where he needs to be. Thanks for the update, brownie.
  21. Lotte Lenya Sukey Tawdry Lucy Brown
  22. Look forward to both of those.
