Check out What are you listening to right now? and look at how many new recordings are listed. "We" are not the general music buying public, but we are folks who care about music. And if we're not listening to what's new, is the general public listening to what's new? I do believe that part of that is the fault of the record companies not recording new music that's of interest to the general public. They started not making as much money and got scared/conservative, only putting out music by big names that they hope will make a lot of bucks fast, and putting out more and more reissues. Anything in between was dead. I agree with a lot of what else has been said, but if good music isn't out there nothing else matters. And I do think that much of the good music put out by independent companies gets lost in the shuffle. I think that there's a much smaller percentage of the population - especially young population - today that truly cares about music compared to the percentage that cared say 40 years ago. Whatever the reasons, I believe that's true. Chuck Nessa, on 24 February 2011 - 08:25 PM, said: We all be stuck in the '50s-'70s. That goes for the record companies too - maybe they make it to 1990.

For me, I skip the JFK speeches and get to the music (which is beautiful..the Phil Woods 3/4 waltz ballad...beautiful). I agree though, kind of weird. Let us know what you think of the Benedetti set when you get it!!! Oh man, I just ordered the Benedetti. My wife is going to kill me. I've been trying to cut back but then this month a Borders near me had a going out of business sale, and so I picked up a bunch of stuff at reduced price, and now this Mosaic sale, and I could have passed it up but I've been wanting the Benedetti for quite some time. I was still going to pass it up until I heard some sound clips on All Music, remembered again why I wanted it so much, and so I took the dive. But that's it, damn it. I'm swearing off Mosaic for several months after this. I don't care what goes out of print! I can identify with your joy - and your pain.

Reading something like that instead of the usual sportswriting b.s. makes me remember why I loved baseball.

Getz and Tjader's performance of Vince Guaraldi's Ginza Samba is perfection. But I'm not paying for it a second time to buy an insignificant increase in fidelity. I don't understand why Concord isn't issuing unreleased-on-CD Concord Record sessions, as well as alternates and previously unreleased material from the Concord vaults. They're idiots. Totally agree about all of the unreleased Concord recordings from the 70s-80s. I am thinking in particular of the Marshal Royal recordings that are only on LP. There's great music!!! I've even bugged Mosaic about it....who knows The problem is that those recordings probably didn't sell as LPs and probably won't sell much as CDs. Has Mosaic ever issued anything from the Fantasy or Concord vaults? If the Concord group won't release the material they should lease the tapes to Fresh Sound or Definitive. I think you're living in a dream world.

New: Robert Johnson -The Complete Original Masters
paul secor replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Miscellaneous Music
Unless I missed it, I don't see any mention that they've gone back to their vaults and done anything to improve the sound of the 1990 box set - the sound on that one was nothing to write home about. "THE CENTENNIAL COLLECTION double-disc set shares the same genealogy as 1990′s Robert Johnson – The Complete Recordings" If they haven't improved the sound, I'm not interested. -
