  1. Just speaking for myself - I've got a lot of better things to do than to waste my time on this "controversy".
  2. A wonderful singer and a wonderful record.
  3. Jeff - Thanks for the work you put into this, and thanks for introducing me to some new music. I'll be getting the Frog compilation with Lee Collins for sure, and will keep an eye out for the Horace Henderson and Chubby Jackson material. Will also try to check out some James Black. He may play on some of the AFO r&b cuts reissued by Ace, but I'd like to hear him on some jazz recordings. I used to have the Nat Adderley record you mentioned, but that one never grabbed me. A pleasure to hear the music you presented, as always.
  4. Sonny Rollins: "Jungoso" from What's New (RCA)
  5. I'd rather not.
  6. Nick Bottom Titania Puck
  7. I remember that a friend of mine who does a blues radio show used to play a couple of tunes from that Clayton Love on the air.
  8. Joe Albany Doris Troy Little Geneva
  9. Interesting interview - one man's life in another America.

  11. I hear you. John Szwed did include a discography in his Sun Ra bio, and that included a lot of recordings, but it was compiled by someone else. In this case, even a selected discography would be a lot of work and Szewd probably would have had to put it together by himself.
  12. It is what it is. None of those guys wants to risk a serious injury. I passed on watching it.
  13. Imo, Maslin is a fluff writer/reviewer but, also imo, Szwed could have included a selected (his choice) discography.
  14. Georges Simenon: Lock 14
  15. No, not Thelonious. Anyone know anything about this label? I assume that it's just an outfit that digitalises material that other labels have issued and releases it as high priced vinyl. But, since I'm unfamiliar with the label, I could be wrong.
  16. I'll have to go against some of the prevailing opinions. It's a good recording, but I was somewhat disappointed when I heard it. The people involved and the idea of a reunion of young guys who'd played together in Memphis led me to expect more. I guess my expectations were too high.

  19. I remember reading that Byron Allen passed away some years ago. Perhaps someone can verify this. Hope I remember wrongly.
  20. Read this story about Gil Meche. You may never read another one like it
  21. Yes - welcome, Bob. Hope you'll stick around. You'll have a lot to add to this place.
  22. Efrem Zimbalist F. Scott Fitzgerald J. Alfred Prufrock
  23. A few more: Richard Davis Thurman Barker Tony Oxley Louis Moholo And I don't think that anyone's mentioned Charlie Haden.
  24. It was depressing looking through my collection and realizing how many musicians who were young in the 1960's are no longer with us.
