  2. Agreed. Cadence is worth supporting and, in my experience, they seem to have the things they list on their web site in stock.
  3. Amen. Back in the late 70s/early 80s, before CDs, one of the tapes I made for the car had "When I Stop Dreaming" from a Rounder LP on it. Love that record. R.I.P., Mr. Louvin.

  5. First Cadence is shutting down. Now Jack's is closing. The world is falling apart.

  7. Looking forward to listening to this one and the rest of your upcoming issues.
  8. I remember reading that Buck Owens fell apart emotionally and lost a lot of his interest in music when Don Rich died.
  9. The Original Johnny Otis Show (Savoy/Arista)
  10. I have the RVG and three Japanese LPs - Vol. 1: King Japan and Vols. 2&3: Toshiba EMI Japan. I enjoy listening to the RVG a bit more. The sound isn't all that good on LP or CD, but the music is very fine.
  11. As is Dom Minasi: Quick Response.
  12. In the 2010 Cadence Reviewers Poll, Nessa Records got more mentions than any other label by an almost 2 to 1 margin. Roscoe Mitchell: Congliptious; Leo Smith: Spirit Catcher; Bobby Bradford/John Stevens/Sponateous Music Ensemble;Lester Bowie: All the Numbers. Congratulations to Chuck! Perhaps this will lead to some more sales.
  13. In the current (Jan.-Feb.-Mar.) issue of Cadence, editor Bob Rusch writes that "Cadence will cease publication with the Oct.-Dec. 2011 issue (unless another publisher takes over) but all other Cad/Nor Ltd. branches will continue to operate." Since it's unlikely that anyone will take over the publication of Cadence, it seems that a run of 36 years will be coming to an end. I've been with them since their second issue and the magazine had become a part of my life. I'll miss it.

  17. Bobby "Blue" Bland: "It's My Life, Baby" from The "3B" Blues Boy (Ace) - 1955 cut where Bobby Bland first sounds like BOBBY "BLUE" BLAND, and Roy Gaines' playing is like fire on the guitar strings.

  22. I'll be ordering it around 2015 After the Braxton, Threeadgill, MJQ, Herman, Rich etc etc etc Yeah, same here... except I have the Braxton already. Guess the Ellington will be one to get rather soon though, as I just want to hear all of that music! You won't regret the Ellington set lot's to explore in that set, I am on the fence about Braxton. Is it plain enjoyable, or more academic? I don't have very much of this type of music. Opinions? Here's some previous discussion:
  23. I agree with several others' comments. It's not a great session, or even a very good one but, as Jim said, it's real. I'm glad I have it in my collection and there's always something there when I listen to it.
  24. That was the first Earl Hooker I ever heard. I soon found out that there was better stuff out there, but that was the one that started me on a lifelong love affair with his music.
  25. Sandpaper might be a better bet to clean a Yoko LP.
