  1. The very best of wishes to you on your birthday!
  2. We're living in a time when chameleons are honored more than individualists.
  3. Guess you never created anything. Oh, you did? When was that? Sorry, you don't own it anymore. You can buy 2 acres in Utah, leave them to your children, they can leave them to their children and this shit can go on forever. I create a musical masterpiece (novel, symphony, blues, poem, etc) and at some point the friggin' government can take my rights and give it to "everyone". Why didn't I buy 2 acres in Utah? Why bother to create anything? After a time, you can own someone else's creation - and do with it what you will - without having done a thing.
  4. This afternoon: Charlie Parker: The Complete Savoy Studio Sessions - Dec. 21, 1947 Detroit session: "Another Hair Do", "Bluebird", "Klaunstance", "Bird Gets the Worm"
  5. Roscoe Mitchell Trio: No Side Effects (RogueArt) And I found a replacement LP for the LP in my Charlie Parker Complete Savoy Studio Sessions box that got lost in a move or some place down the line over the years. So I'll be listening to Bird and Roscoe (& other stuff) over the next week.
  6. Never heard about weed - no doubts that it could happen - but a friend of mine who used to work for a record company/distributor told me a story about an LP on a small Jamaican label being returned because a chocolate chip was pressed in the vinyl.
  7. Probably mean spirited in light of what's happening to Mr. Goulet, but I couldn't help thinking of Edward Dorn's poem, "In Defense of Pure Poetry": The guards can say what they want And so can Vernon and so can NBC But whatever it is they have to say Nobody can fault the King For squeezing the trigger on Robert Goulet.
  8. Not my thing, so I'm no expert, but wasn't "What I Like about You" done by the Romantics sometime after the 70's?
  9. I'm not there, but a nephew goes to school at Pepperdine U. Seems that things there have calmed down, at least for now.
  10. I do recognize genres/boundaries, even if they overlap sometimes. I probably listen to more jazz than anything else, but there are many times when I feel the need to listen to other types of music, and at those times I listen to what I need to hear speaking to me - no 2nd, 3rd, etc. favorites. Whatever I'm listening to at the time is my favorite. So I didn't vote, but I'll look at the results out of curiosity.
  11. Thanks for posting that article. Not many people have devoted over 70 years to doing something they believed in and enjoyed doing. I'm sure she affected the lives of many, many people during that time.
  12. I thought that this whole thing was a put-on. Figured everyone would see her moving clockwise, until I asked my wife to take a look, and she saw her moving counterclockwise.
  13. Just wrote Jim another check. Today's mail has come already, so it goes out tomorrow.
  14. Warne Marsh Quartet featuring Lou Levy: A Ballad Album Muhal Richard Abrams: One Line, Two Views - after listening to Lazaro's MRA show last Sunday
  15. Still waiting for that followup, in the meantime here is a sample from Sempé's latest book 'Sentiments Distingués' out this week! Thanks for that, brownie. I'll be getting that new book. I'll have to check whether it's coming out in the US - if not, I'll look elsewhere.
  16. I was never a Packers fan, but Max McGee was a good one and I respected him for that. R.I.P. But what was he doing up on a roof at 75? Guess he still though of himself as a tough guy.
  17. Hope it's a very happy birthday! Always enjoy reading your posts.
  18. Best wishes for a complete recovery to Porter Wagoner.
  19. Your memory is correct. You and I made mention of jazz on the Weather Channel on this thread. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...mp;#entry332992
  20. Full of Miss Marples clones and psychos
  21. Hook the bird up with Eeko, Misha Mengelberg's parrot (if he's still around), and send them out on tour.
  22. Always fantasized about living in a small village in England. Probably would be nothing like I've imagined.
  23. As Yogi Berra supposedly said when asked this question, "If it belonged to a poor person, I'd return it."
  24. IMHO the best Bartok and the rest are dandy. I love this set. He was one crazy mf. I listened to the Bartok Solo Violin Sonata this afternoon. To my (admitedly uneducated) ears, he could really wail. I kept it in mind and ordered it because of an old post of yours about the Sibelius Violin Concerto. Glad I remembered. LISTEN TO THE BARTOK CONCERTO! OK - I'll listen to it twice.
