  1. I've been sitting on some vintage audio equipment handed down from my father and it's time to do something with it. Fisher 400 - Fortunately I have been referred to a person that restores vintage tuners/amplifiers/receivers and loves the Fisher 400, so I'm good with this. So.... A pair of JBL c36 speakers that have been in storage way too long. I'd like to make them operational again and I'm wondering if someone here as an idea of what normally would be required to restore. I'm not talking about the cabinets just the insides. I guess the obvious thing would be reconing? I wouldn't mind sending them away if needed, but would want to make sure the person knows their shit and it makes financial sense. Apparently the jewel of the lot and number one priority is the Thorens TD124 MKII. I've read about changing the plinth and all kinds of other shit. Thoughts?
  2. Huh, the things that can be done with technology these days. I'm kicking around the idea of doing one but have to be careful not to commit without making sure I'm up to the task. I'll let you know what I settle on. Thanks
  3. I'm curious about the download thing. Back in my day we used to mail a CD out. How is this being done?
  4. Look at you. All grown up and doing the town. Congrats on this.
  5. Man, this is really sad. RIP sir.
  6. piano lesson ran late. Honestly...., nowhere, somewehere, everywhere, mixed with lots of shit both good and bad. I've checked in here a few times these last few years but never got around to posting. Not that I didn't have anything to say, I just didn't say it. Know what I mean?
  7. Testing 1, 2, 3 .....Let's see if I remember how to post. This is right up my alley since piano solos are often my favorite so here are a few I really enjoy. Richie Powell - I'll String Along With You (Brown and Roach Inc.) Joe Castro - Sunset Eyes (Teddy Edwards, Sunset Eyes) McCoy Tyner - The Morning After (Hank Mobley, A Caddy For Daddy) Erroll Garner - Teach Me Tonight (Concert by The Sea) Bill Evans - Porgy (Waltz For Debby) Steve Kuhn - Malaguena (Pete La Roca, Basra)
  8. Ascend Acoustics I've had a pair of Sierra 1s w/NrT for two years and could not be happier with them. The Sierra 2s are now available and I plan on going for the upgrade. Unfortunately the company does not put much effort into the website and it needs to be updated, but they do have a forum section that discusses the new speakers. Before I bought mine, I called and spoke directly to the owner.
  9. If you take the trip, do yourself a favor and make the 70 or so mile drive to Saratoga Springs (as previously suggested). It kicks major ass in the summer and your wife will love it.
  10. Rolf, I'm very, very sorry for your loss. I know she was a special person from the short time Catrina and I were able to spend with the two of you. The bond and love you shared for each other was obvious. Please accept our most sincere condolences to you and the girls. Chris
  11. Thanks to all! I've been away working on my book titled "trombone for dummies". I'm stuck on page three so I might have to fill it with pictures of trombone babes playing chess. Free, will you write the forward. (in crayon of course)
  12. Hope it's a great one!
  13. Very nice! Belated birthday wishes to you. You're a true gentleman and valued member of this community.
  14. It's impossible to take serious a guy who says his hero is Jackie Chan and proves it by wearing a Jackie Chan t-shirt.
  15. I don't think Betty is over Don. It was obvious she was waiting at the house for him to show up.
  16. Damn, that whole flip flop Don did with the two women was really something. After coming clean with Faye I thought for sure he was going to make it work. She took it really hard and it would not surprise me if she does indeed cause him problems next season. At the end when Don was sitting in bed wide awake and looking out the window he almost had an "oh shit what did I do" look on his face.
  17. Brilliant episode. Don covering Pete's partnership obligation was totally unexpected. In fact when Lane brought it up, Don had a look on his face as if he wasn't going to be able to cover his share. That certainly answers all questions about Pete's loyalty. I have a feeling Don's "why I quit tobacco" is going to do more good for the agency than harm. I suppose the writers could take that in a completely different direction but I'd like to think they are setting Don & Company up for better times. The one thing that really surprised me was Cooper walking out. I thought it would have been Roger, Cosgrove, or Pete.
  18. Sorry, but I'm not about to trust Verizon, AT&T or any other service provider to make the call as to whether I need the phone or not based on if it's moving. What if you're in an emergency situation? And how would they determine if the user is just a passenger or the driver. What about on the train? I don't disagree with a ban on texting, that's a no brainer. I'm even willing to conceed to hands free like we have in NY, but outlawing use of a mobile device in a car completely is going too far. It has become too much a part of doing business on the go. And this is coming from someone that hates talking on a cell phone. I go out of my way not to do it but that doesn't change the fact I have to carry two and sometimes it is unavoidable.
  19. Re: Roger... Yeah, I thought for sure we were going to see him dead by the end of the episode.
  20. Let's hope this year there's an umpire that can see fair from foul... Twins got it back with an absolutely terrible call in the bottom of the 9th, ruling that Golson trapped a ball that he clearly caught, giving the Twins a runner with two outs and putting the tying run at the plate in the form of Thome. Ultimately didn't matter, thankfully. It sucks to see an outstanding play like that get called wrong but like you said, thankfully it didn't matter.
  21. Yeah, I remember hating the character last season but have found myself pulling for him ever since they all partnered up. He was really trying to prove a point last night. Red, white and blue balloons for the kid, Playboy Club, etc.etc... That last scene with his father was really bizarre. I wonder if he will be returning. Whatever happened to the kid that Don hired? Roger's nephew/cousin or whatever by marriage.
  22. Damn, just when the agency was really starting to take off, all this shit happens. I really hope the thing with Don doesn't go any further. Judging by the previews I'd say Roger comes clean on Lucky Strike and more bad is coming.
  23. Nice trio, Michael!
  24. It was tough watching the Jets last week, but yesterday.....
  25. Holy shit there was a lot going in this last episode. RIP, Miss Blankenship.
