  1. Kenny Clarke Francy Boland Big Band “Blowing the Cobwebs Out” disc 1 The blowin’ out of the cobwebs is a helpful thing.
  2. Walter Smith III and Matthew Stephens “In Common” Whirlwind cd
  3. I'm a big Stout fan, read all the Wolfe's when I was in my twenties, my youngest brother got me started on it as he told me that he thought I was a lot like Archie Goodwin (and there are similarities--I too was born in Canton, and my favorite drink is milk--my brother thought I was like Archie with the ladies too, but I don't see that). I like the Tecumsah Fox books too--a nice re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes I think. And I love a novel he wrote in the second person called "How Like a God." What a fascinating person Stout must have been to be around.
  4. Pharoah Sanders “Love is Here” Transcendence cd, disc 1 Re-visiting this excellent 2 cd set from last year. Wow.
  5. Another warmer night and a warmer day ahead. Lots of melting going on. . . I expect soon to hear the crashing sound of snow and ice sliding off the roof! The eery quiet of a Sunday morning out here . . . the already low ambient sound lowered still. I really enjoy being up this early and spinning a disc. I’m starting off with a bunch of real pros, One4All, “The Long Haul” on Criss Cross.
  6. Pete LaRoca “Bara” Blue Note Japan UCCU-8110
  7. Nels Cline “Lovers” Blue Note, disc 2. Quite inventive arrangements and the engineering is just awesome.

Tastes in these things are different, but I would not consider the majority of the material in the 1966 box set "unlistenable." There are a few that are more difficult to listen to than most, but man the music is really . . . something.
  9. Legion of Mary “Absolutely Mary” (bonus disc to “Legion of Mary–The Jerry Garcia Collection Vol.1”) I love this disc.
  10. Some great Teagarden music. This was originally a Jazz Tone LP, an expansion of a Jazz Tone 10" and then also ten of the twelve tunes appeared on Bethlehem as “Jazz Great” . . . . Some great Mr. T with Jimmy McPartland, Jack’s sister Norma, Edmond Hall, Ray Bauduc et al. Jack Teagarden “Jazz Original” Affinity cd
  11. I'm on the spin of the last disc in my comparison of the new remaster and remix of Yes "Tales of Topographic Oceans" that I am spinning for a report for my best friend of my impressions. I really like both the new remaster, and Steven Wilson's new remix. Two very good presentations of music I love. After this I can move on to the other cds in the box set, and the LPs! This listen is to disc 1 of the set, the first two LP sides, newly remastered.
  12. It is predicted to be in the mid-forties today. Will feel like a. heat wave! I'll be hard-pressed to keep my wife indoors. Starting off the quiet this neighborhood has on Saturday and Sunday mornings with Melissa Aldana "Filin" Blue Note cd, just released yesterday. I really like her work and she has been touring overseas for months and is on the top of her game. This is very mellow, building slowly, and I remember from my old band days how difficult it was for me to manufacture and maintain such beauty, and I really admire that skill. The album is dedicated to ballads, inspired and mostly following the Cuban style known as "filin." The recording is excellently engineered.
  13. For me and my system the tonal balance is better. It may well be a subjective thing.
  14. Tom Harrell “First Impressions” High Note cd Yet another great Tom Harrell release on High Note. Arranged By – Tom Harrell Bass – Ugonna Okegwo Cello – Rubin Kodheli Drums – Johnathan Blake Flute, Bass Flute – Charles Pillow Guitar – Rale Micic Piano – Danny Grissett Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone – Wayne Escoffery Trumpet, Flugelhorn – Tom Harrell Violin – Meg Okura Recorded at Avatar Studios, New York, NY on April 8, 2013 except track 7 recorded at Water Music Recording Studio, Hoboken, NJ on May 13, 2013.
  15. “Duke Ellington on Mercer–Great Tunes” This is a fascinating disc. It compiles all the masters of the material Duke participated in on his son Mercer’s record label, all issued under the names of Ellington sidemen, some of the “expensive gentlemen.” Sound is not great because the masters are gone and Jasmine is not the be all and end all of excellent remasterers, but the playing is excellent and there’s a different vibe to this material than on other labels imo.
  16. Dayna Stephens “Gratitude” Contagious Music cd Quite a band! Baritone Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Electronic Wind Instrument, Synthesizer, Bass – Dayna Stephens Bass – Larry Grenadier Drums – Eric Harland Guitar – Julian Lage Piano – Brad Mehldau
  17. Listening to an ezz-thetics cd remake of the Impulse John Coltrane “One Down, One Up” 2 cd set, called “ong Of Praise New York 1965 Revisited” and I have read it sounds way better than the Impulse, and it does. I think this is an imortant musical document.
  18. On to disc 2 of this set, recorded at Ronnie Scott’s in London in 1969. This would be/would have been a good candidate for the Plangent Process, but still sounds quite good. Marty Morell may not be the most popular drummer that Evans hired, but he had a long tenure and I find much to admire in his drumming (I used to be a drummer myself, some years ago). A “peppier” Evans performance than many others. Bill Evans “Evans in England” Resonance Records 2 cd set disc2 300×300 7.54 KB
  19. Tom Harrell “Light On” High Note cd Yet another great Tom Harrell on High Note.
  20. Bill Evans “Evans in England” Resonance Records 2 cd set disc 1 This is on sale at Resonance at the moment for 9.99 and also for 9.99 is this fabulous 3 cd set: https://resonancerecords.org/product/art-tatum-jewels-in-the-treasure-box-cd/ Four or five other good ones are on sale.
  21. Moving into a more mellow mood with Nels Cline “Lovers” Blue Note 2 cd, disc 1
  22. I have all the sets but the most recent one or two . . . really like them all. Right now 22 degrees and it won’t get much warmer. No snow predicted though. Swinging into the start of a new day with Benny Goodman “V-Discs” 4 cd set, disc 1 130×127 5.07 KB
  23. Jimmy Rowles “Subtle Legend Vol. 1” Storyville cd A great trio recording from “The Lizard,” and features some of his quirky vocals as well. 300×296 5.01 KB
  24. Yes “Tales from Topographic Oceans” Super Deluxe Edition. cd 4 of 12, the 2025 remix by Steven Wilson, sides 3 and 4.
