Swingtime. . . and Downbeat too. (Same outfit?)
  3. Well, I was in Africa at the time, but when anyone brought me albums from the States they were mono. I have a mono Sgt. Peppers, Magical Mystery Tour, Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme, Leo Wright Blues Shout,Charles Bell and the Contemporary Jazz Quartet, Slide Hampton's Sister Salvation, Ruth Brown, etc. and I have in the last decades bought lots of mono records from the second half of the sixties so I just think it's not unusual that Contrasts was released in mono.
  4. I've got all three cds and I LOVE them! Couldn't open the link either.
  5. There were plenty of mono albums in all fields still released in 1967. . . .
  6. You should be careful handling cds, certainly. In fact you have to be careful not to scratch the top layer as well as the bottom. That said, they are more durable than one might think, and yet oddly vulnerable too. Sometimes you can slide one across the floor by accident, and not one problem will ensue, and sometimes you can just put a finger on the playing side it seems and get a skip. Also some players are very sensitive to skuffs and scratches and others aren't. . . . Best to just be careful and respectful of the silver discs!

Yeah, I had that but think the Night Train sounds better . . . to my ears on my system. Great music!
  8. I just have to. When you work for the state and the taxpayers and when you work for people you don't trust to do the right thing, you have to cover certain bases. You have to ask even if you shouldn't have to ask.
  9. PS: Glad you're getting your own office; I'm finally being moved out of the old carpenter's shop under a parking garage I've been in for two years, a big room with three other people sitting at desks, and a large table where Grounds and Maintenance Technicians hang out when they can, and two adjoining private offices where my boss and the Grounds manager are housed. It's weird. Sometimes trucks go by overhead. The warehouse for building and ground maintenance is right next door and it has a parts bin carousel that goes round and round a few times a day and sounds like a train. And there are all sorts of interesting aromas like paint and starterfluid and. . . . I'm glad to be moving! VERY glad!
  10. Yeah, I've actually heard a Tivoli radio. It sounds good, but I'm sort of always tied to my PC, so having this three piece system would be great if it's an improvement over the one the state supplies (my former boss sort of got me the best she could and it's not bad, it's an Altec three piece from about seven years ago). If my IT department won't let me connect them to their PC I can always bring in one of my extra cd players and use that (I've got a Harmon Kardon and a nice Sony Walkman that I could use) to power those speakers. . . .
  11. YES, it was my politest statement. . . Saw those Amazon comments as well before starting this. I may spring for these, I'm still waffling!
  12. Yeah, I saw that a few days ago. I don't know how to evaluate things said at audioasylum. It's a strange place. . . .
  13. I've had a Pujol Spanish version, and now have the Night Train version of this material which sounds better. Great flipping music for the most part
  14. No, I haven't bought these Klones with the print ready face, but my guess is that it will be like others I've bought: have a flat matte white inked surface.
  15. Hmmm. . .I'd be more over it if they were maxislims! (I use those whenever I can, and that turns out to be often.
  16. No, they come with fullblown jewel cases.
  17. I'm in the 25-49 zone. . . I think.

Yes, I've never seen the US cd, but it was one that was deleted but NOT reissued as part of the Collectors Choice series. Hard to believe! But I believe that is true. . .
  19. Nice move! There ARE much cheaper options. . .Maxell sells a three piece for less than 40 bucks! But no wood and brass and probably not the same planar panel design either.

I'll have to check that one out, thanks for recommending it; that trio was a long and hard working one that really sounded great!
  21. "He will be missed. Dearly." Agreed. And alternately, he will be with us, and dearly so. Changed my avatar in memorium. Such sad news!
  22. I'm for it Late. 'S a good one.
  23. Anyone have any experience, psychic impressions, guesses about the quality of these speakers for use as PC speakers in a small office? http://www.vonschweikert.com/fps_speaker.html They were mentioned in a thread about personal planar speakers and have me intrigued. I'm about to be moved into the first private office in my work history since 1983, and I may want to replace the speakers that I have with the PC with these if my IT department will allow me. . . . They look nice, and they look as if they would be a nice addition to my work listening time. . . .
  24. I looked through this thread and wow what great names here! I thought and thought. . . and I'm still hanging with Aretha and Marvin. Depends how you define soul I guess. I sort of define it as Aretha and Marvin.
