  1. I'm solidly in the RVG camp.
  2. No I guess "Indigoes" isn't obscure, but it is rarely talked of, and in a way the original lp may be a bit obscure as the cd release had differences. . . . I love it. Wish they would redo it or Mobile Fidelity would lease it or some such.
  3. Yes, it's really there. Won't surprise Harold to find I'm a George Lewis fan. I really like that band. I wish that Mosaic would do a Verve set . . . Really nice stuff nicely recorded. And just last week I dug out my Dragon cd of Lewis in Sweden and really enjoyed the heck out of it! Harold's right, this is different from Chicago style and sure isn't Hollywood dixie or businessman's bounce mediocre material, but vital and expressive music in the old New Orleans tradition. And luckily. . . there's lots of material got recorded by George and his clarinet!
  4. I like the bonus disk, especially the first half, which is a live Weather Report Suite and about 30 minutes of live Blues for Allah. . . .
  5. There's a Vernon label that issues Teagarden material! (Makes sense since he's the pride and jy of Vernon, Texas.) Live at the Plaza has been out in Japan, A Drum is a Woman has been out in France and maybe Japan, and I think Bal Masque has been out on cd from France. . . . Not sure the Hodges have been out. Theyre probably among his weakest, but still cool.

Yes, I agree. First time I heard that whack stuff on Live/Evil with the electic piano and whistling the intrigue began. . . .
  7. I haven't gotten to that disc yet. . . hopefully mine won't skip. (Skips are often player dependent!)
  8. Ah go see "I Heart Huckabees" instead!

My four cents: This one he wrote and arranged and produced the music of and I love it: This one is odd but really good: He makes very important contributions to these classics:
  10. Hope it was great!
  11. Hope it was a fantastic day Brownie!
  12. Many many more happy ones!
  13. Enjoy yourself Chris!
  14. Well, I have the box set in da house now. Must say: remastered sound is excellent, very very good, so much better than the earlier cds. And there is almost exactly half as much bonus material I think, which is well chosen. So far the biggest rush for me is hearing the acoustic demo of "Weather Report Suite" done by Weir and his 12 string (?) alone. Man oh man. That suite is my favorite music of the Dead, period, (I don't think this has anything at all to do with Wayne or the WR band, and is all the better for it) and to hear this seminal recording is a thrill!
  15. Jim, thanks for putting that out there in the thread. YOU KNOW DA SAXOPHONE. Me, I don't know the saxophone at all, but I do know one thing from just listening over the years: Albert Ayler was one monster saxophonist!
  16. Yes, tightrope walker, that's me! Essentially, Xmas dollars that I'll get as gifts will cover this or some other reckless cd purchase!
  17. My closest friends it turns out share with me a reversion to televised sports, and watching sports in general. Playing is one thing, perfectly respected among us. Having to pay extra on all sorts of things we purchase to fund advertising and promotion for televised sports rankles us! Otherwise my friends have a variety of interests, there's almost always something shared and much that is not. I have many friends, a few close friends, and am ultimately quite an introvert (as my wife is). I'm a professional extrovert by trade, I have a lot of friends and make friends easily (I think it's all about RESPECT) and yet I have always had an intimate life with only a few friends in my lifetime.
  18. Well. . . the Deadsters have a really effective, for me, marketing approach: those bonus cds that they only offer from the website with an order. I found I just had to have the one that was with the Jerry Garcia box set, and glad that I did order from them, because I LOVE that version of Saint Augustine. And so something happened in my cabeza and I went and ordered the new box set through them so that I could get the bonus cd which looks really good. . . and also the second in the Pure Jerry series which comes with a bonus cd from them. My finances are very shaky indeed. . . Anyone want to buy 25 Duke cds? B-)
  19. I believe Addey started off in the studios at Abbey Road, before there were Beatles. He has a wealth of experience that he brings to the job with him!
  20. Add shoe fetishist to the list. That might be the one that brings him to justice. . . .
  21. I don't know, I don't always like K2 remasterings. Case in point: to my ears, in my system the regular OJC of "Wide Open Spaces" sounds much better than the K2 from Japan. And there are a few other instances where Kirk Felton's remix and remastering sounds better to me. And I'm a fan of the RVG series . . . . The clarity is a big plus for me, and most sound quite nice on my best system.
  22. aka, You'll likely want to stay away from "Lord of Lords." Going to be a bit too string-driven for you. "Huntington Ashram Monastery" may or may not be "your cup of tea". . . . I'll have to try to revisit it, I wouldn't call it a "groover" but it does not have strings running pell mell atop it!
  23. Many more happy ones!
  24. Wow! Preorder price dropped 7 dollars or so at cduniverse!
