I've been easing my way through this set, making sure I have fully absorbed one disk before moving on. . . . I listened to the bonus disk first, then worked my way chronologically. I've made it up to Shakedown Street and it strikes me that despite what the booklet says about Lowell George's producership being sort of nonexistant, I can sort of feel his hand in the way the band sounds on this one. . . .

I've got all the Mercury discs. . . I really love most of the material. . . sometimes however I can't get past the cheeze and wiz to get to the VOICE. . . . I do a lot of selective listening to the later sets.

I'm with Jim on this one too. I LOVE Dinah. . . but I can't say I reach for any of the Roulettes I have. Don't reach for the Sarah Vaugh Roulette material either. . . .

Louis Armstrong, Jack Teagarden, Wingy Manone, Woody Herman, and . . . . Oh, I know that's not quite fair, but. . . .These folk were VOCALISTS too, and damned fine ones!

Ordered the Grateful Dead movie and soundtrack cds combo. . . . I'm in trouble!

I like the Chronogical Classics I have, the bad thing being that they overlap with the King Jazz material I have in three other forms! I totally dig the Jazzology releases of the older stuff, Jazz Record Story, Trios and Quartets, Apex Blues. . . .The Delmarks are also great. I ran across some lps that are out of print that are really nice solo piano on Euphoria; one has Hodes doing "Watermelon Man" and I love it! I'm a big Hodes fan. . . I still have some more to get but I'm slowly doing so, because I don't want to be at the end one day, and I am savoring them slowly. . . .

Well apparently the title piece/suite was only played live three times, and none seem to appear in the Dick's Picks series. . . there's the one on the box set, and the one on One from the Vault, and another from August 1975 I think that I haven't located yet. . . .

I'm solidly in the RVG camp.

No I guess "Indigoes" isn't obscure, but it is rarely talked of, and in a way the original lp may be a bit obscure as the cd release had differences. . . . I love it. Wish they would redo it or Mobile Fidelity would lease it or some such.

Yes, it's really there. Won't surprise Harold to find I'm a George Lewis fan. I really like that band. I wish that Mosaic would do a Verve set . . . Really nice stuff nicely recorded. And just last week I dug out my Dragon cd of Lewis in Sweden and really enjoyed the heck out of it! Harold's right, this is different from Chicago style and sure isn't Hollywood dixie or businessman's bounce mediocre material, but vital and expressive music in the old New Orleans tradition. And luckily. . . there's lots of material got recorded by George and his clarinet!

I like the bonus disk, especially the first half, which is a live Weather Report Suite and about 30 minutes of live Blues for Allah. . . .

There's a Vernon label that issues Teagarden material! (Makes sense since he's the pride and jy of Vernon, Texas.) Live at the Plaza has been out in Japan, A Drum is a Woman has been out in France and maybe Japan, and I think Bal Masque has been out on cd from France. . . . Not sure the Hodges have been out. Theyre probably among his weakest, but still cool.

Yes, I agree. First time I heard that whack stuff on Live/Evil with the electic piano and whistling the intrigue began. . . .
