  1. Hubert Laws “The San Francisco Concert” CTI/Columbia expanded cd
  2. As far as Orwell goes it isn't just "imagination" that led to the vision of state that is presented in 1984 but imagination based on extrapolation of experience. Orwell was an international reporter, combatant and traveler that saw and chronicled and even battled fascism in Spain, Germany, Italy and Russia among other nations and understood the inner workings of these repressive states. He was able to write about them with real strength in 1984 and other works. I have read nearly all of Orwell over the years and a few biographies. Fascinating thinker and writer.
  3. It's a totally different type of recording than the Mosaic, it's really hard to compare them. I'll say that a bit of hiss does not bother me, and I have no real complaints about the sound of these two volumes. I myself ordered Vol. 3 from amazon.com
  4. Lovely lady.
  5. In my opinion the music is significantly different than the Mosaic set. . . but equally interesting. Sound is decent. I have both the previous two, and am looking forward to this one.

  9. Hasaan Ibn Ali “Reaching for the Stars: Trios/Duo/Solos” Pretty amazing how this obscure pianist’s catalog has grown from 1 lp to 4 releases in the last few years. This one has “okay” sound and very interesting performances.
  10. Took ten seconds to find this on the internet. I saw this band in Austin years ago, a highlight of my limited concert going: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mingus_Big_Band

  13. Mine arrives tomorrow. . . but it's a busy weekend with in-laws from out of state. . . may not get to until Monday or Tuesday. More looking forward to the Resonance release.
  14. “Chris Madsen Trio Plays Bix Beiderbecke” Followed by Fred Hirsch “Passion Flower–The Music of Billy Strayhorn” Trying to set the right mood going into a challenging weekend with certain in-laws. . . .
  15. I was into the Dan in the 'seventies and when Aja and Gaucho came along those were the pinnacle for me. Great stuff. I don't own any Dan material any longer though. Like many things from that time their work was over-played around me and I just don't need to actually hear it any longer.
  16. Vinicius Cantuaria “Cymbals” Naive cd 900×900 61.6 KB “Cymbals” again. . . nice for early early morning. On to Art Pepper “The Complete Maiden Voyage Recordings” Omnivore Records, disc 1 of 7 This was a gift and a very nice one. I’m facing late Pepper again. . . not my favorite period generally, but the complete sets on this set and the excellent sound are helping. I like the more mellow pieces here where Art has the time to blow gently.
